Hi Kids!
Tomorrow is the big day! That start of Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) which runs until December 7th.
There are probably more changes to Medicare and carrier's plans this year than any year in the past. This is due to big changes in the Prescription portion of Medicare as phase 2 of the Affordable Care Act where the Insurance Carries are being asked to carry the biggest burden of paying for the greatly reduced drug costs for most seniors on Medicare.
With this in mind, pay special attention this year to changes in your plans that you should have received by now from your Insurance company. Many carries have greatly reduced your "value added" benefits like dental, vision, gym memberships and others.
Key components of the plans as I evaluate and compare include the following:
1. Maximum out of pocket expenses (MOOP) - if you had the worst health year ever, what is the most it will cost you?
2. Co-pays for your primary care doctor and specialists?
3. Co-pays if you were admitted into a hospital as an overnight patient?
4. Monthly premiums, if any.
5. Annual deductibles.
6. The extras: dental, vision, hearing, over the counter product allowances and premium givebacks.
I am please to report that the carrier that I represent, United Healthcare, has chosen to make very few changes to our most popular Medicare Advantage Plan in my area here in Dayton, Ohio.
"Plan 7's" highlights:
1. $0 Premium...no change
2. Low max out of pocket of $3400....no change
3. $0 co-pay for primary care...no change
4. $25 specialists co-pay...no change.
5. Low $250 hospital in-patient co-pay for days 1-5...no change
6. $1750 max dental benefits...no change
7. $300 max vision benefit...increased by $50 for 2025.
8. $40 per quarter for over the counter products...reduced by $10 for 2025.
9. Free gym membership...no change
This is just one plan in one county in Ohio.
I am licensed currently in Ohio, Florida and Tennessee with Maryland coming soon, hon!
I would be please to discuss your situations and conduct apple-to-apple comparisons to help determine your best course of action based on your individual needs and health.
Please call me at 937-542-0008 or e-mail me at medicarebrian@yahoo.com to get the ball rolling.
And as always, if you or anyone you know is turning age 65 in the next year, send them my way so I can help explain what Original Medicare does and does not cover.
Stay safe and healthy everyone!
Brian
