STRONG is a comprehensive program developed to prevent and treat the physical, emotional, and sexual victimization of children, teens, and young adults.
Self Empowerment STRONG promotes the power of empowerment in our groups to help young people develop their inner strengths, build confidence and self-esteem, and develop lasting life skills. We offer multiple groups for each age group. The groups are interactive with unique enrichment activities that make learning and expression fun! Safety & Prevention STRONG emphasizes self protection and abuse prevention by teaching social media safety, self defense classes, bullying prevention, and assertiveness skills in a warm, kid-friendly environment. Education & Activism STRONG operates under the premise that Knowledge IS Power by providing information on issues related to sexual abuse/trauma, victim rights, navigating the judicial system, resources for survivors and their families, and opportunities for positive societal change. Clinical Treatment STRONG offers confidential, professional clinical treatment for individuals and families. We offer treatment groups, including sexual abuse treatment, and parent support groups. We also provide services to sexually reactive children to help them eliminate sexual acting out behaviors, and promote safety.

"Someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has. To do something, as my colleague David Souter would say, outside myself. ‘Cause I’ve gotten much more satisfaction for the things that I’ve done for which I was not paid."

I will add to this that there is an epidemic of child on child sexual abuse. This seems to be rising related to the porn industry targeting children, who then act out what they have seen with younger children. This sexual abuse can include violent rape, and can go on for years before it is discovered/disclosed. I get these cases literally every day in my private practice. The porn industry tampers with videos on You Tube, and other outlets, that kids love, i.e. My Little Pony, kitten videos, and transforms them into pornographic material. Porn pops up on innocent searches, and video games. Once viewed, this affects a child's brain like other addictive substances. It is not about an adult's right to view whatever they may choose. This is about children being targeted and damaged by the porn industry. The effects are devastating.
Please be aware, and look closely at what your children are viewing. My youngest client who became addicted to porn, through innocent exposure, and sexually acted out with other children was 5 years old. He is not the exception. In my practice, alone, I have worked with countless others.
msn.com Sexual assault remains dramatically underreported, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, and understanding the staggering statistics around this all-to-common crime is important for finding ways to protect people and support victims.

I get a lot of requests for volunteer opportunities at Grass Roots, but because we run such intimate groups sizes there is not much opportunity for volunteers.
We have a 1/2 acre of yards space out back that is pretty vacant minus our herb garden, mud kitchen and magical trees.
I have noticed over the years that neighborhood kids sometimes play here when we’re gone and I had the idea that we should turn the backyard into a biodiversity garden- An Urban nature preserve that we could use as an outdoor classroom and the neighborhood kids could use as their own classroom and oasis.
My question to you by a show of “likes” is how many of you would be interested in a “Biodiversity Pot Luck”. You purchase and plant a native plant or seeds to help start our community nature preserve.

“There was a permanent dark cloud in the house. It was abuse in every way. Mental. Physical. Sexual. It was permanent fear. Whenever my father was home, I just locked myself in my room and tried to be as quiet as possible. My mother and I finally escaped when I was six, but the abuse stayed with me. I didn’t make any friends at school. I couldn’t trust anyone. It was an open wound. But when I was fourteen, my mom told me that we could do something about it. She asked me if I’d be willing to testify. And I agreed. The trial happened two years later at my father’s military base. I hadn’t seen him in ten years. The lawyers told me I didn’t have to be in the courtroom when I testified, but I felt like I needed to face him. Just to show that I wasn’t afraid anymore. He was already seated when I walked in the room. I put my hand on the Bible and looked right at him. For a moment, I felt a stroke of fear wash over me. Like I was a kid again. But I set it aside and gave my testimony. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. He was sentenced to ten years in prison. I’ve moved on with my life. I don’t think about him. I’ve grown to look like him, but I’m not him. Even if someone tells me I’m him-- I’m not him. I’m me. I’ve lived my entire life to not be him.”
