Are you wearing a ball cap or have hair covering your forehead?

These can both cause clogged pores or comedones which may worsen acne.

Are you washing your sheets often enough?

Sheets can harbor oil, bacteria, and residue from skin and hair care products. Consider washing them more frequently and switch to a silk pillowcase.

Are you constantly touching your face or picking at your skin?

We often carry bacteria under our nails and this can lead to infection and inflammation of the skin.

Are your cycles regular? Does your acne worsen around your cycle?

If you are having trouble with your cycle or you specifically notice worsening of your breakouts around your cycle, you need to be evaluated by both a gynecologist, to make sure you don’t have any medical conditions such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and by a dermatologist who can prescribe a medication that is specifically catered to treating hormonal acne.

Are you constantly changing skin care products and not using a dermatologist recommended skin care regimen?

If you are getting information from multiple sources and trying different products that are not necessarily based on scientific evidence, it’s really important to see a dermatologist who can start you on an evidence-based skincare routine.
