✨ Trick-or-Treating Tips for Children with Autism ✨

Halloween can be a lot of fun — but it can also bring sensory overload and unexpected surprises.

Here are some helpful ways to make the night enjoyable for everyone! 💙

🧡 Tips & Tricks:
1️⃣ Plan your route ahead of time – Visit familiar houses and keep it short if needed.
2️⃣ Go during daylight or early evening – Less noise and fewer crowds can help reduce stress.
3️⃣ Practice beforehand – Try on costumes and role-play saying “trick or treat!” at home.
4️⃣ Choose comfortable costumes – Soft fabrics and tag-free options make a big difference.
5️⃣ Have visuals or a social story – Walk through what to expect with pictures or a story.
6️⃣ Bring sensory supports – Noise-cancelling headphones or fidgets can help.
7️⃣ Celebrate in your own way – Handing out candy or joining a trunk-or-treat are great options too!

💬 Every child deserves a fun and comfortable Halloween! 👻

🎃Autism-Friendly Trick-or-Treating🎃

This Halloween, you may see some kids carrying blue buckets while trick-or-treating.

💙 A blue bucket is a simple way to show that a child is on the autism spectrum and may experience Halloween a little differently — and that’s okay!

Here’s how you can help make the night more inclusive:

✨ Be patient — some children may not say “trick or treat” or “thank you.”
👻 Not every child will wear a costume (some have sensory sensitivities).
🍬 Offer candy or non-food treats with a warm smile.
🕯️ Keep decorations friendly — flashing lights, loud sounds, or jump scares can be overwhelming.
💬 A kind word and understanding go a long way.

Halloween should be fun for everyone. 💙
A little compassion can make a big difference for a child with autism and their family.
