Have you gotten your chicken dinner yet? We’ve mailed out over 200 coupons this Thanksgiving season! If you didn’t receive one and would like one, just stop by and grab yours.

It’s not “$10 off when you spend $20.”
It’s not “buy one, get one free.”
It’s not a gimmick.

You can truly walk out of Dots Market on Alex Bell Rd with a chicken dinner without paying a dime!

Why? Because I’m grateful for you, and I want to give you something tangible, something you can actually feel and enjoy. And what’s better than a hot, broasted chicken meal during this cold, frigid weather?

See you soon. Dinner’s on me!

"Fear of falling"

The two biggest indicators of fall risk are, number one, the fear of falling, and number two, a history of falling. At Your Neighbor Physical Therapy, we offer a specialized program designed to strengthen your lower body and improve your balance. We also use various devices to enhance your reaction time, helping our patients regain confidence when they’re out and about.

Ask your friends, family members, or parents if they have a fear of falling. If the answer is “yes,” it likely means they’ve fallen before. And statistically speaking, their risk of falling again within the next six months is high.

Talk to us and find out how we can help. There’s a lot you can do before you get hurt.

"Unlock your peak performance"

We help athletes move better and perform better.

If you’re an athlete, have you ever thought about how much your movement pattern affects your performance? Small changes can make a big difference. For example, by simply correcting movement patterns, a novice weightlifter can often improve their personal record by 10-15% in just one session.

For runners, we use an iPad app to record and analyze your running form. You’ll see detailed data and visual feedback right away. Recently, we worked with an avid runner who had been experiencing hip pain. After correcting his running form, he was able to run pain-free again, a huge progress for someone so passionate about running.

We’ve also helped golfers and bowlers improve their performance through movement analysis.

If you want to take your performance to the next level, come see us. You’ll be glad you did.

"Got rib problem?"

There are three layers of muscles between each rib, and like any other muscle in the body, they can become strained, sore, and painful. As physical therapists, we can use stretching or massage to help decrease discomfort, but one of the most effective techniques for rib pain is cupping.

During my dry needling training, the instructors specifically emphasized using cupping for rib pain. Because the rib muscles are located so close to the lungs, dry needling in this area carries a risk. No one expects to end up with a punctured lung after physical therapy, so we avoid that altogether because safety is of course our highest priority.

If you’re dealing with a rib problem, whether from a fall, a sports injury, or even after a boxing match, we can help you recover. Safely.

"A Pop on the Field? Call Us First"

This week, a gentleman called us because of leg pain. He was playing softball, and when he pushed off to run, he heard a pop. I had him come in during my lunch break because I just had to know if he had torn something. It’s awful when someone has a serious injury and is told to wait before being seen. I also told him that if he had torn something, I wouldn’t charge him. Unfortunately, based on my examination, I believe he did. I gave him instructions, answered his questions, and we set up an appointment for rehabilitation down the road.

If you ever find yourself in a similar situation and believe you’ve seriously hurt yourself, don’t play the guessing game. Give us a call! Physical therapists are trained to examine injuries without an x-ray or MRI.

And if you have a tear, I won’t charge you.

"How Getting Jacked Can Help Your Joint Pain”

One way we help our patients is by strengthening their muscles. Imagine you are a patient with advanced knee arthritis who is not a candidate for knee replacement surgery. What can we do as physical therapists? One of the most effective treatments is strengthening the muscles around the knee. With improved strength, you can maximize the function of the joint. Of course, it takes a careful and specialized approach to strengthen a painful joint, and that is what our training is for.

Physical therapists are the experts in conservative musculoskeletal care.
If you think this approach could benefit you, reach out to us. We’d love to have a conversation.

And...sometimes our patients bring us flowers and Esther Price chocolates. The chocolates aren’t in the picture because they are...not here.

"How effective are we?"

Last week, a patient texted us and asked, “How effective are you at treating SI joint problems?” I replied, “We see many people with SI joint issues, and we’ve had a lot of satisfied patients. But you should be the one to decide how effective we are.”

For those who may not know, the SI joint is the connection between your spine and pelvis, and it is a common source of low back and hip pain. At Your Neighbor Physical Therapy, we address SI joint pain with joint manipulations, soft tissue work, assisted stretching, and targeted exercises. Depending on your tolerance level, we may also use advanced dry needling or cupping techniques.

No matter what techniques we use, our focus is always on whether you feel better. Our approach is patient-centered and results-driven. And if we find that physical therapy isn’t helping you, we’ll be honest and let you know.

Do you struggle with SI joint pain? If so, come see us, and you can be the judge of how effective we are.

"Why Choose Us Even Without Insurance?"

Your Neighbor Physical Therapy does not accept health insurance, and people often wonder why patients would choose us when they could use their insurance for physical therapy. One reason is simple: we provide better care. We use hands-on techniques like manual therapy, joint manipulation, and soft tissue work, etc. We also spend more one-on-one time with each patient, which helps them recover faster. Per our Google reviews, patients often describe that we “take the time” to listen to them.

Of course, some patients prefer to stay within their insurance, and that can work just fine. But if you are not getting the results you want, consider coming to us. There is no doubt that we provide higher quality care.

“When It Slips Out in the Clinic, and It’s Not a Disc”

All the content here is inspired by true events that happened in the clinic. I was asked if patients ever pass gas while I treat them, maybe during a manipulation or while stretching their legs.

The answer is yes, and for me it happens about once a year, so not very often. But when it does, it can be pretty awkward. To set the record straight, the smell does not bother me. Back in grad school I worked as a nursing assistant in a nursing home, and more than half of my job involved cleaning elderly residents. On top of that I am a father of three, so a little gas leakage does not faze me at all.

The truth is the patient is usually the one who feels embarrassed. So how can I make them feel less uncomfortable? I have asked many of my physical therapy colleagues, and the general consensus is to completely ignore it no matter how loud it is. In other words, just pretend nothing happened.

But what if the patient says “excuse me”?

What would you do? Let me know in the comments below 👇

“Struggling with headache?”

One thing we do really well at Your Neighbor Physical Therapy is taking care of patients with headaches and migraines. From years of experience, we’ve found that many headaches are actually the result of unresolved chronic neck pain. This is known as a cervicogenic headache. Once the neck issue is addressed, the headaches often improve significantly.

Imagine going from having a headache every day to just once a week, and continuing to improve. That’s a major boost in quality of life, and we have many stories like that. Just check out our Google reviews.

If you or someone you know is dealing with chronic headaches, reach out to us. You don’t have to keep suffering.

"Got the Cringe for Needles?"

Your Neighbor Physical Therapy has always been known for providing the highest quality of dry needling treatment. Instead of just knowing how to perform dry needling, we are actually certified in it through IDN (Integrative Dry Needling), one of the most widely recognized dry needling education providers. We use it daily because our care is not restricted by insurance, which makes us even more proficient since we apply these techniques all the time.

However, we understand that dry needling is not for everyone, because at the end of the day, it still involves needles. An article in Times Magazine reports that about 16 percent of adults have a fear of needles. If you cringe at the thought of needles, we offer plenty of alternatives to dry needling. Cupping, kinesiotaping, and IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) can all be very effective for treating soft tissue impairments and decrease pain. And do not forget about manual therapy, which makes up more than 90 percent of a typical session.

If you have regular joint problems, reach out to us. If you have complicated joint problems, reach out to us. Addressing musculoskeletal problems is our specialty.
