Before you add someone to your birth team, here are three important questions to ask yourself to find out if they're really up for the job!

1) WHAT'S THEIR JOB?
Why is this person there? What is their role? Is it to help you remember breathing techniques, help you communicate with the staff, support your partner?
Be specific! Remember, your birth isn't a spectator event. Labour can even slow down if you feel there are too many people watching you. If they don't have a specific job, or they're just there to see a baby be born, reconsider having them there.
You aren't obligated to allow anyone at your birth, even if they're family, your best friend, or anyone else. Remember, your team is there to support you- not because they're excited to see your baby be born!

2) ARE YOU COMFORTABLE?
During labour, you'll likely feel a range of emotions from joy and excitement to despair and frustration. You'll probably feel vulnerable and maybe a little overwhelmed at times.
Do you feel safe to experience intense emotions around this person? How do they react when you are upset, anxious, or frustrated? Do they help, or do they make you feel worse?
Emotional distractions can stall your labor, so make sure you feel comfortable with everyone that is in your space.

3) ARE THEY UP TO IT?
How will this person react to the realities of birth? Can they handle seeing birth up close (possibly including blood, fluids, and noises)? Are they able to stay supportive to you even if your labor is long? Are they able to stay calm and rational if complications arise? If you have a birth plan, do you feel confident that they support it?
Your support team needs to be prepared to see you in discomfort or pain and stay objective when things get intense. This means they'll need healthy coping tools of their own.

Jenn is such a wonderful human , loss mom and she has included my grandson Atlas in this book 💙

Oh, look what just arrived … the proof for my first published collection of coloring pages. (Technically, my first coloring book was self printed and sold in 2003 and it was called my brothers new guts in honor of Othello and his transplant journey written by me and Sebastian.)

These coloring pages are dedicated in memory of children that have passed away.

I’m already working on the second collection of pages for the next book. (Just a few more days!)

Once they go live, I will publish the link for purchase for those who are interested. (A portion of each sale will be donated to a local infant and child loss supports organizationss )

Sometimes Birth means, saying hello and goodbye at the same time.

These amazing women (plus Ms. Andra a retired postpartum and nicu nurse) want to make sure that the families they companion through their pregnancy and birth have a Midwife or Doula that is educated and capable of supporting them if they get the devastating news that their child will be born not alive or pass shortly after birth.

These women attended my supporting loss for birth professionals workshop today. we discussed resources, guided participation, meaning and momento making and more.

Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences, and I hope you took away from today so many things that will help you and your future clients.

Special Thank you to FIRST COAST Midwifery Services LLC for your space and 21 Queen Street Coffee Company for the amazing coffee 🙂

PleaseShare ! I will be joining Jenn tomorrow teaching this workshop!

Do you know how a Tongue tie affects breastfeeding? Bottle feeding ?. ToTS is nothing new to me and the last 2 years I’ve been working part time with Dr Gary Myers our local pediatric dentist . He offers laser tongue tie releases in his two offices here in north east Florida . I have also completed several CERPs on ToTs . There is a growing need to teach CST to parents . It is MY desire to work with families , babies and more to do the CST and continue at home ! Yes YOU moms and dads can do much of the work at home after I show you . I look forward to sharing more with you ! If you are in need of CST / body work for your baby I offer in home visits and soon in a few other places .
I also can access your baby for tongue ties , get you in quickly for assessment with Dr Gary Myers and release
If you are experiencing breastfeeding, bottle feeding , colic, or more reach out to me. Body work is often recommended FIRST prior to the laser release .
