Last Friday, a few of our leadership team had the pleasure of attending the Women2Women Luncheon presented by the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce at Oceanside Country Club.

The event featured an inspiring message from Dr. Carmen J. Balgobin, Superintendent of Volusia County Schools, whose visionary leadership has helped elevate one of Floridaโ€™s largest school districts to new levels of excellence.

Under her guidance, Volusia County Schools has earned its first โ€œAโ€ rating in more than a decade and achieved its highest graduation rate ever, all while expanding opportunities like career and technical education, STEM initiatives, and dual language programs.

Dr. Balgobinโ€™s story is one of perseverance, purpose, and impact. She is a reminder of how strong leadership, community partnership, and dedication can make a difference for students and families across our region.

We are grateful to be part of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and to have opportunities like this to connect with fellow business leaders, support inspiring initiatives, and contribute to the growth and strength of our local community.

Since joining The Orthopedic Clinic in 2022, Jason has played an important role in supporting our team and strengthening our workplace culture. From recruiting and onboarding new employees to benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance, Jason helps ensure our staff has the support they need to succeed.

Beyond the day-to-day responsibilities of HR, Jason is also known for helping bring our team together. Each year he helps lead and host our annual holiday party, creating a space for our staff to celebrate together. He is also often behind the scenes, helping stage photos for our physicians and marketing materials, always willing to jump in wherever he is needed.

Jasonโ€™s approachable leadership style and commitment to supporting our employees make a real difference across our entire organization.

This week, we say goodbye to two wonderful members of The Orthopedic Clinic family, Michelle, RN, and Wynn, MA.

Michelle has been part of our team for many years and has left a lasting impact on everyone who has worked alongside her. She was always willing to step in wherever she was needed and brought a steady, compassionate presence to both patients and staff.

Her long career in nursing has been an example to so many of us. Right now, she is enjoying some very well-deserved rest and relaxationโœˆ๏ธ, and we hope this next chapter brings her plenty of adventure and happiness.

We are also wishing Wynn the very best as she begins an exciting new journey. Wynn worked closely with Dr. Hatten and Dr. Matthews while always being willing to help wherever she was needed.

After graduating from Florida State University, she is now headed to the University of South Florida to begin Physician Assistant school. We are incredibly proud of her and know she will do amazing things.

Michelle and Wynn, thank you both for the care, teamwork, and positivity you brought to our patients and staff. You will always be part of The Orthopedic Clinic family.

The Orthopedic Clinic is proud to share that Dr. Brian R. Hatten recently performed the first total knee replacement using VELYSโ„ข robotic-assisted technology at Halifax Health.

This milestone represents continued advancement in orthopedic surgical care right here in our community. Robotic assistance supports precision and personalization during surgery, helping tailor the procedure to each patientโ€™s unique anatomy.

Dr. Hatten specializes in joint replacement and is widely recognized for his expertise in advanced surgical techniques. He also teaches robotic-assisted techniques to surgeons nationally, helping move the field forward.

Weโ€™re proud to work alongside Halifax Health to bring innovative orthopedic care to the Daytona Beach community.

Bike Week is one of the most exciting traditions in our community. Every year riders from across the country come to Daytona to enjoy the roads and the energy that make this event so special!

At The Orthopedic Clinic, our physicians are proud to support the riders who make Bike Week what it is. During the event, our doctors take call at Halifax Health, helping care for riders who may experience orthopedic injuries while they are here.

Our Story

The Orthopedic Clinic has been helping greater Daytona Beach area patients live their life in full motion with expert orthopedic care for over 50 years. The practice has grown to include 12 physicians, 10 mid-level providers, with a professional staff of more than 150 taking care of patients at 5 convenient locations. The Orthopedic Clinic offers physical therapy, the areaโ€™s only orthopedic walk-in clinic, and a state-of-the-art surgery center. With offices in Daytona Beach, Port Orange and Palm Coast, The Orthopedic Clinic is the largest and most comprehensive orthopedic practice in the area.

The Orthopedic Clinic was founded in 1961 by Dr. Thurman Gillespy Jr., who was one of the first orthopedic surgeon in the Daytona Beach community. His practice provided much needed orthopedic care that wasnโ€™t previously available, and it quickly grew to a multi-provider practice in East Central Florida.

Dr. Gillespy trained in an orthopedics program in Philadelphia, PA, where he met Dr. Gilbert Martin, Dr. Willis Stose and Dr. Mel Dodd who joined The Orthopedic clinic shortly after its inception. The founding partners believed that orthopedics was about treating the individual patient, not just the illness. They took the patientโ€™s lifestyle and health goals into account before recommending a treatment plan.

Today, we still follow in our founderโ€™s footsteps. Our mission is to provide quality, cost-effective healthcare to the community-one patient at a time.
