Years ago, my morning routine was all about coffee. These days, I start with electrolytes and water. Not because I’ve sworn off caffeine (I haven’t) or because I’m an LMNT co-founder, but because it helps me wake up better — and science backs it up.

Here’s why:
• Sleep dehydrates you. You lose fluids and electrolytes overnight through breathing, sweating, and urine. Most folks wake up mildly dehydrated.
• Hydration = water + sodium. Plain water isn’t enough. Without sodium, water just passes through you, and you’re left crampy, sluggish, brain foggy.
• Caffeine works by blocking adenosine, a key compound that increases throughout the day as part of the body’s circadian regulation. It helps you feel tired when it’s time to sleep. Mistime your caffeine, and you could mess with your body’s natural wake/sleep cues.
• Caffeine’s “half-life” — how long it takes your body to get rid of half the caffeine — varies. For some people, 1–2 cups in the morning is fine. For others, it’s the reason they’re tossing and turning at night.
In today’s article, I dig into:
• How to test your caffeine metabolism and timing
• Why Dr. Andrew Huberman recommends waiting 90 minutes before your first cup of joe
• The hydration alternatives I use when I want to skip the crash — like hot LMNT Chocolate Salt or a Raspberry Electrolyte Tea (recipe in the article)
• How sodium before bed might reduce wakeups
Bottom line: You don’t need to quit caffeine. But understanding how it works — and how it competes with your brain’s sleep signals — can help you sleep better, feel sharper, and avoid that jittery crash.

A good pillow supports your head and neck in a neutral position, aligning your spine properly. This alignment is essential for a comfortable and restful sleep. A poor pillow can lead to discomfort, neck pain, and even sleep disturbances like snoring or sleep apnea. Finding the right pillow can significantly impact your sleep quality, comfort, and overall well-being. It's worth taking the time to find the perfect one for you.

September 11, 2001 was one of the darkest days in American history.
Today, 24 years later, we honor the lives lost and the countless heroes who emerged in the face of tragedy.
We will never forget.

Do electrolytes give you energy?

If you’re talking about caloric energy or cellular energy (ATP), no, electrolytes don’t provide that. Electrolytes are minerals, and don’t contain calories like a steak or apple do.

But you’re talking about a subjective feeling, or feeling sharp and awake, by that definition the answer is absolutely — electrolytes can help.

Electrolytes are the driving force behind energy production in our cells, nerves, and muscles. They also support nerve impulses, hormonal health, fluid balance, and more. In other words, they help provide stable energy by supporting those processes throughout the day and you feel the difference when you get it right.

Is your water cup making you sick?
Do you keep a refillable or insulated cup with you throughout the day? Are you washing it regularly?
Heat and humidity can lead to the growth of bacteria, mold or other microorganisms which could lead to a number of symptoms such as sore throat, congestion, GI upset and more.
While keeping a drink with you is helpful to stay hydrated on these Florida summers, we all need to make sure to wash these cups or bottles regularly. For water cups the recommendation is to wash daily, or after each use for any liquid containing sugar.
