Several years ago, 7 & 7 synch protocol burst onto the scene as a new tool in beef cattle reproductive management. The program is touted for its remarkable ability to bring cows into estrus for Fixed-Time AI (FTAI) and conception rates are reported to be on par with, or better than, the “gold standard 7-Day Co-synch + CIDR” protocol.

That said, the additional chute trip for 7 & 7 has been a deterrent for some producers. However, savvy embryo transfer programs understand that exceptional estrus response provides an opportunity to maximize the proportion of recipients receiving embryos—in turn resulting in more high-value pregnancies.

Over the past 4 years there has not been a more influential sire in the Red Angus breed than ENERGIZE, whether it be in seedstock herds, the show ring or commercial cow/calf operations he has seen success and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. With his wide usage and sons being used throughout the industry, we are always asked the question of what to breed his daughters to. ENERGIZE’s pedigree and ability to make fault free, easy fleshing, good footed cattle allow for a lot of mating flexibility. However, here are a group of bulls we think match up well whether you are looking to stay the same path or deviate.

Propulsion: #4 for registrations in the breed this year and a perfect complimentary mating for Energize daughters. Look to Propulsion to sire dark red, powerfully constructed cattle that are consistent for type and kind. He is a great option if you are wanting to add a little more growth, length of body and overall power to the Energize females. Daughters are shaping up to be excellent from a maternal standpoint!

EVERCLEAR

A Different Kind of Clarity

An exciting find on a recent visit to an ABS progeny test herd were these daughters of 29AN2280 Everclear. We bought Everclear based on his unique EPD profile among Clarity sons, and his first progeny appear to be validating his predictions. The heifer calves were incredibly consistent, moderate, broody, and thick-ended all while being moderate at birth and coming unassisted. Ranch owner Greg Ibach summed it up well, “I think I will keep all of the Everclear daughters”.

Artificial Insemination (AI) has been a cornerstone of beef cattle reproduction for decades, but its role in today’s industry continues to evolve. Through advances in synchronization, genetics, and the use of sexed semen, AI is helping producers improve efficiency, profitability, and long-term herd performance. What was once considered a technology reserved for elite seedstock herds is now a proven, accessible practice used in both seedstock and commercial programs to improve consistency and performance.

That progress took center stage during a panel discussion at the Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle (ARSBC) Conference, held in North Platte, Nebraska. The session brought together industry experts to share real-world insights into the implementation and success of AI programs in beef herds.
