If you get an unexpected call and they say they are from Medicare, Social Security, or the IRS, just HANG UP. Do not give out personal information to someone who calls you claiming they are from Medicare or other government agencies.

These places won't call you. If you’re unsure if it’s really them, use a verified phone number to call the agency and ask if anyone was trying to reach you.

Lakesha Heard, 47, Atlanta, is the latest suspect extradited to Volusia County for scamming a local resident out of thousands of dollars.

The victim in this case was contacted by an individual claiming to be a VSO lieutenant who advised she’d missed jury duty and had a warrant for her arrest. The victim was instructed to deposit $9,300 into a Bitcoin ATM, which she did.

These detectives traced the funds to Lakesha’s account and secured an arrest warrant for grand theft and organized scheme to defraud. Lakesha is connected to a fraud ring run by a Georgia state prison gang. She is not the first to be arrested and probably won’t be the last. Great job Financial Crimes Unit 👏
