Have you ever heard the terms Torticollis or Plagiocephaly and were like ??? Um, what does that even mean?! 😵💫
Torticollis + plagiocephaly usually show up as baby always looking one way, having a head tilt, struggling with tummy time, feeding on one side better than the other, or developing a flat spot on one side of their head. 👶🏻
Torticollis is basically tension and imbalance in the neck, muscles, and fascia that makes it hard for baby to comfortably turn both directions. This can happen from how they were positioned in utero, birth stress, a long labor, or just extra tension through the upper neck and nervous system.
Plagiocephaly is the flat spot that can happen when baby keeps laying or resting on that same side over and over because it feels easier for them.
We, as pediatric chiropractors, don’t just look at the flat spot, we look at WHY it’s happening. Through gentle adjustments, cranial work, palate support, and nervous system-focused care, we help baby release tension, move better, feed better, and feel more comfortable in their body. Which in turn supports them as they continue to grow and develop!
So if you are reading this and have a little one that you’re noticing is starting to develop a flat spot, or favoring looking to one side more than the other, come on in so we can help relieve the tension and calm their nervous system! 😌
