Joy Ann Alwes died peacefully and surrounded by family at her home near Maribel, WI. on Oct. 1, 2025. Joy was born to George and Louise Bade in Kankakee, Illinois on May 9, 1944. She was baptized into the Christian faith April 17th, 1949. Joy attended high school in Momence, Ill and graduated from The University of Illinois with a degree in Home Economics. She married Marvin Alwes on June 19, 1965, and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, JoEllyn and Lynette; five grandchildren; Sam, Max, Madie, Jaden, & Bryce; and one great grandson, August. Joy had many musical and creative talents which she used to bring “joy” to those around her. Whether it was singing, cooking, sewing, arranging flowers, or making art with natural materials she did so with elegance and grace. She had a knack for bringing out the best in others. She loved choir, helping others, serving on committees at church and visiting shut-ins. She was truly a “Joy to behold”.

Family and friends may gather on Sunday, October 5, 2025, for a visitation beginning at 11:30am at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church-Maribel, 14311 Maribel Road, Maribel. Services will follow at 1pm, Rev. William Harley officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow.

Clarence "Clem" Coenen

Clarence “Clem” Coenen, 91, of De Pere, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center in De Pere, WI.

He was born on February 11, 1934, son of the late Frank and Lena (Albers) Coenen. On October 20, 1956, he married Frances Lukowicz at St. Willebrord Catholic Church in Green Bay, WI.

Clem was a veteran in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was a graduate of West De Pere High School. Clem spent his entire working career at Fort Howard Paper Company and found time to coach his kids in Little League Baseball. Clem enjoyed fishing on Shawano Lake, smelt fishing in Algoma/Kewaunee and loved to watch the Brewers and Packers.

Clem is survived by his three sons Scott (Jan) Coenen of Franklin, WI, Bob (Jackie) Coenen of Green Bay, WI and Jeff (Kristin) Coenen of Superior, WI; five grandchildren Kyle (Danielle) Coenen, Jenna Coenen, Ryan (Jenna) Coenen, Brooke (Travis) Cheesebro and Megan Coenen; four great grandchildren Kennedy, Braxten, Theo and Cameron.

A private family service was held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Green Bay, WI.

Memorials would be appreciated to the charity of your choice in Clem’s name.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center for his medical care and Unity Hospice of De Pere for their exceptional care of Clem.

Joseph "Joe" Bowers

Joseph “Joe” Bowers, age 85 of De Pere, WI, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI.

He was born on October 12, 1939 in WI, son of the late Elzear and Johanna (Demerath) Bowers.

On November 1, 1958, he married Leanne Krueger in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Joe and Leanne were the owners and operators of Bow Wow Club (Ridge Point) in Wrightstown, WI. He was also construction worker at Van Handel Construction Company in Appleton, WI. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing taxidermy. Joe went to Colorado hunting for over 50 years and became good friends with the local ranchers, especially Guido and Margaret Rossi. His highlight was a trip to Africa with Tom Van Handel after his retirement.

Joe is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Leanne; his children Pam (Bill) Hopps, Jim (Pam) Bowers, Brian (Amy) Bowers, Bill (Jody) Bowers, Karen (Mike) Bader, Luanne (Jerry) O’Leary and Bob (Renee) Bowers; 14 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren.

His siblings Merlin “Butch” (Marlene) Bowers, Judy McCormick and Patti (Phil) Weber; brothers and sisters in-law Donna Bowers, Diane Bowers, Paul (Carla) Krueger and Robert Krueger.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by son Tim Bowers and daughter Susan Bowers; granddaughter Stephanie Bowers; his siblings David, Jerry and Robert Bowers, Marilyn Fischer and Ethel Vande Hey.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 437 Main St., Wrightstown, WI 54180 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm again continuing Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 9:00 am until 10:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 all at the church with Father Santy Turiano presiding. Burial will be in St. Clare Catholic Cemetery in Wrightstown, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be sent to St. Clare Catholic School.

Irene E. Summers, age 99, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Lake

house New Holstein. She was born on August 10, 1926 to the late Maurice and Ella (Nies) Summers. Irene was a graduate of Wrightstown High School and later attended Badger Business College. She was a dedicated employee of Traveler’s Insurance Company until they closed the area office. She then worked for Brown County until her retirement. After retiring she enjoyed traveling, bus trips, concerts, lunch with “the girls”, going to movies and dinner with a good Scotch Old Fashion in hand.

Irene volunteered for the Red Cross for more than 20 years and also did Homecare. She is an active member of St. Willebrord Catholic Church where she coordinated funeral luncheons and was involved with the Sanctuary Society. She loved to cook and bake…well known for her famous sugar cookies, pumpkin pie and dill pickles. Irene’s kind heart helped many and she will be very missed.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Van Grinsven; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Thankful to her many special friends, Joan Daniels, Joan Warden, Mary Coleman, Phillis Clarkowski, Mary Cieslewicz, Judy Friedrichs and Kathy LaMae.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Summers, Joseph (Everal) Summers, Rita (Clarence) Coenen, Theresa (Brawley) Vaughn and Dennis Van Grinsven; nephews Roy Coenen, Dale Summers, Lee Van Grinsen and Joe Coenen; niece Julie Coenen; a dear friend, Lois Hackl.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., Green Bay, WI 5430 from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 3:00 pm with Fr. Andy Cribben presiding.

Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

Irene's family would like to say thank you to the caring staff at Lake House New Holstein Assisted Living and Bristol Hospice. You kindly guided Irene on her journey home.

Shirley M. Kasten

Shirley M. Kasten, a beacon of faith and love, completed her earthly journey on September 26, 2025, at the blessed age of 100. She was born on July 5, 1925 in Chicago, IL, Shirley touched countless lives with her unwavering spirit and generous heart. Her final days were spent in Ocala, Florida.

Shirley’s life was a testament to her deep Christian faith and the love she poured into her family. She was a devoted mother to her children, Myra (William) Knoener, Cynthia (Richard) Mleziva, James (Cindy) Kasten, Judith Kasten, and John (Karen) Kasten; Her legacy continued to flourish through her 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, each one a precious jewel in the crown of her life’s work. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, August; and her daughter, Judith.

Today, as we reflect on the life of Shirley M. Kasten, we are reminded of the power of a life well-lived. She taught us that to live in service of others is to truly walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Her memory will continue to guide us like a lighthouse, beckoning us to love without limits, to live with purpose, and to embrace each day as a gift from above.

We celebrate Shirley’s reunion with her Creator, confident that she has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Her spirit, a well spring of hope and joy, will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Let us live by her example, each day a reminder of her enduring love and God’s promises of everlasting life.

Family and friend may gather on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 14311 Maribel Road, Maribel, WI 54227 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am Rev. William Harley officiating.

Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Maribel, WI.
