πŸ’™ Medication + Therapy for ADHD

ADHD treatment is most effective when we look at the whole person. For many individuals, medication can help improve focus, reduce impulsivity, and calm the constant mental noise that makes daily tasks feel overwhelming.

When symptoms are better managed, people are often able to fully engage in therapy, develop routines, build coping skills, and strengthen executive functioning. Medication does not replace learning tools. Instead, it can help create the mental space needed for those tools to actually work.

At Bay Psychiatry of Wisconsin, ADHD care is thoughtful, collaborative, and individualized. Treatment plans may include medication management, behavioral strategies, therapy recommendations, and education about how ADHD impacts work, school, relationships, and daily life.

Children, teens, and adults can all experience ADHD differently. Our goal is to help patients better understand their brain, build practical strategies, and feel more confident navigating everyday challenges.

If ADHD symptoms are impacting focus, organization, emotional regulation, or productivity, professional support can make a meaningful difference.

😴 Sleep and mental health are deeply connected.

When sleep struggles begin, they can create a cycle that affects mood, focus, stress levels, and daily functioning. Poor sleep can increase anxiety and emotional overwhelm, while stress and worry can make it even harder to sleep.

Breaking that cycle is possible with the right support.

At Bay Psychiatry of Wisconsin, we help patients address the root causes of sleep challenges including anxiety, ADHD, trauma, depression, and stress. Treatment may include therapy, medication management, or a thoughtful combination tailored to your needs.

Better sleep can support clearer thinking, improved mood, and stronger emotional resilience. 🌿

A new ADHD medication, centanafadine, is currently under priority review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with a decision expected by July 24, 2026. Developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical, the once-daily medication targets dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin simultaneously, which could represent a new class of ADHD treatment if approved. πŸ§ πŸ’Š

A new ADHD medication called centanafadine is currently under priority review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with a decision expected by July 24, 2026.
Developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical, the once-daily extended-release drug works by blocking the reuptake of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, three neurotransmitters involved in attention, mood, and behavior. If approved, it would be the first ADHD treatment designed to act on all three systems at once, potentially creating a new pharmacological class.
The medication was tested in four Phase 3 clinical trials involving children, adolescents, and adults, where it met its primary efficacy goals and showed statistically significant reductions in ADHD symptoms measured with the ADHD Rating Scale-5 in younger patients and the ADHD Investigator Symptom Rating Scale in adults. Participants generally tolerated the drug well, with common side effects including decreased appetite, nausea, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, rash, and sleepiness in younger participants.
Researchers also indicate that the drug may carry a lower risk of abuse compared with many stimulant ADHD medications.
The FDA granting priority review suggests the agency believes the drug could meaningfully improve treatment options for a serious condition such as ADHD.

Could this change how ADHD is treated in the future?

⏰ Daylight Saving Time and Mental Health in Wisconsin

Did you know that Daylight Saving Time can significantly impact sleep, mood, and focus? Even a one hour time change can disrupt your circadian rhythm, which plays a major role in mental health. πŸŒ™

Many people experience increased anxiety, irritability, fatigue, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating during the week after the time change. For individuals managing anxiety, depression, ADHD, or mood disorders, the shift in sleep patterns can temporarily worsen symptoms.

Sleep disruption can affect:

😴 Mood stability
🧠 Focus and executive functioning
πŸ’ Emotional regulation
😣 Anxiety levels
⚑ Energy and motivation

If you notice changes in mood, increased irritability, or trouble focusing after Daylight Saving Time, you are not imagining it. Your nervous system is adjusting to changes in light exposure and sleep timing.

At Bay Psychiatry of Wisconsin, we provide anxiety treatment, depression care, ADHD evaluations, and psychiatric medication management for children, teens, and adults throughout Green Bay, Door County, Brown County, Appleton, and the Wausau area. We offer both in person and secure virtual appointments across Wisconsin.
