Fact or Fiction?
Cholesterol clogs arteries.
Atherosclerosis or plaque begins first with arterial damage from things like homocysteine, insulin resistance, inflammation and oxidative stress.
Cholesterol shows up after the injury as part of the repair process.
Our liver makes 80% of our cholesterol to help our bodies in various ways, like hormone production and brain cell protection to name only a few important roles.
Cholesterol is not the enemy.
Heart disease is much more than focusing on cholesterol, for example homocysteine contributes to artery damage, homocysteine is in all of us as it is the byproduct of protein degradation.
How can we keep homocysteine levels low?
The B vitamins Folate, B-12 and B-6 help the body process homocysteine into a harmless substance that won't damage the arteries.
B-complex is preferred, because B vitamins work together as a family and are codependent with each other.
Methylated B vitamins are the best choice for utilization.
Statin drugs are prescribed to many people to lower their cholesterol, but they do come with risks, like muscle pain, liver concerns and cognitive decline to name only a few.
Understanding your cholesterol levels and ratios are important, but that's only a tiny piece of the puzzle.
Do you know your homocysteine level?
Do you know your CRP level?
Do you know your A1c level?
Do you know your triglyceride level?
Do you know your cholesterol particle size?
All things to consider when looking to watch your cardiovascular health.
