Reposted from () - Shoulder Dystocia happens when the baby’s shoulder is stuck behind the p***c bone. If this happens, time is of the essence. The best position for mom is the hands and knees position. This will reduce pressure on baby’s chest, and shift the baby for birth. If that alone does not work, The above picture shows a counter clockwise maneuver that can help release baby’s shoulder. -

How powerful!
This momma was in active labor..
And still found the strength to comfort and share herself with her other two children.
30 minutes later baby 3 was earth side..
(I will share more of this story later)

How can you use a peanut ball to help open the pelvis during early labor when baby is trying to engage?

During early labor, I tend to recommend that the birthing mother try to rest as much as possible, so this position is the one I’ll recommend!

1- Pick either side to lay on (switch sides every 30 minutes or so)

2- Place peanut ball or pillows between knees ONLY, this causes an external rotation of the femurs which opens the inlet more side to side.

3- Push the hips forward until they lock out as you kick the legs backwards. This push the pelvis in a posterior pelvic tilt, which opens the pelvis more front to back.

4- Rest. 😴

Have you used a peanut ball during labor? And if so, did you consider how it was opening the pelvis?
