In the United States, today is a National Day of Prayer.

This American tradition is actually older than America itself, dating back to the Second Continental Congress, before the Declaration of Independence.

President Truman issued a proclamation in 1952 formally instituting National Day of Prayer, and it’s been an annual occurrence since.

This tradition continues in modern America each year, with the president proclaiming the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.

A simple prayer to start the day:

Lord, Your way is perfect. You lead us on paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.

Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

Your Word is truth, instructing and inspiring us to live in the abundant life You gave when You saved us from the death and destruction of the enemy.

Fill us with truth as we read, study, and live Your Word.

God, You are a shield for all those who take refuge in You. As we abide in You and Your Word abides in us, we take up our shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and run boldly into the darkness to lift up the Word and light up the world!

In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Last year, Option Line surpassed 2 million connections with men and women facing pregnancy decisions. That is five times the number of connections from the year before and the highest annual total in the program’s history. It is an incredible milestone worth celebrating.

But the real story is not the number. The real story is what the number represents: women reaching out for help at all hours of the day and night… and finding someone there.

“Every day, our Option Line staff speak with callers who say they told their partner, parent, or friend about their pregnancy, only to be met with a recommendation that they abort their baby. To these women, this translates to, ‘You're not good enough to be a mom,’ regardless of how they felt when they saw their pregnancy test results.” But we don't leave her to face them alone,” Option Line Director Nafisa Kennedy said. “We connect her with a safety net through her local pregnancy help organization.”

Option Line has been managed by Heartbeat International, the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the U.S. and globally, since 2012. The Lennon Center is an active member of Heartbeat International. This helpline has connected more than 9 million women to pregnancy help since opening in 2003.

Today, Option Line connects more than 5,600 people to more than 3,000 pregnancy help organizations worldwide each day! This equates to connecting women and families in need to pregnancy help every 15 seconds around the clock.

“Option Line offers compassionate support through real human beings who care deeply about the women we serve," Kennedy said. “We empower our callers with hope for a future and knowledge that they don't have to face it alone.” This is yet another powerful example of the pro-life movement walking alongside women facing an untimely pregnancy! Spread the word. It could save a LIFE. www.optionline.org

Students that are in Madonna University's School of Nursing Program have been helping The Lennon Center this past winter semester by volunteering to fulfill their community service requirement.

Seventeen nursing students assisted us in putting together and handing out resource bags to our clients who attended our parenting classes, answered phones, sorted clothing donations, stocked shelves, and so much more!

We are definitely grateful for all of their hard work, positive attitudes, and assistance in lending a hand in so many ways. Thank you so much! Madonna University

Last week, our parenting class clients were given information on safe drinking water for themselves and their families. They learned about lead in the water and how it can affect their growing children.

Through a generous grant, we were able to purchase a Brita pitcher and an additional replacement filter for all of our clients that will provide them with a year's worth of safe drinking water.

Mary’s Mantle is a Catholic residential program for homeless expectant women.

They provide a safe, faith-based, and caring environment that supports the transition into motherhood, including extended aftercare for continued personal growth and integration into the community.

Mary's Mantle focuses on the spiritual, emotional, physical, educational, and vocational well-being of mother and child.

Housing is provided for up to four expectant mothers at a time who are at least eighteen years old with no other children in their care, regardless of their religious affiliation.

The house is staffed 24 hours a day with a live-in housemother, a case manager, and other part-time staff. Expectant mothers experience and witness love and healthy relationships while in residence at Mary’s Mantle.

Staff and volunteers work to help the women understand their responsibilities as mothers and plan for their futures.

Mothers are connected to community resources and are helped to find local churches that will welcome them into their faith communities.

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health problems can affect everyone at any age. The stats are telling: 1 in 5 American adults have experienced a mental health issue. 1 in 6 young people have experienced a major depressive episode. 1 in 20 Americans have lived with a serious mental illness.

If you are struggling with a mental health crisis or thoughts of su***de, please reach out, and call or send a text to 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. This free, confidential number will connect you to a trained mental health counselor who can provide counseling over the phone or direct you to additional care.

Did you know postpartum depression affects nearly 14% of new moms globally? 1 in 7 new moms (that’s nearly 460,000-600,000 moms annually) and 10% of new fathers report symptoms of depression up to a year after their child was born.

It is a serious mental health condition that goes beyond the temporary 'baby blues', which usually resolve within two weeks. While hormonal changes can contribute to postpartum depression, other causes include sleep deprivation, financial stress, lack of social support, and emotional strain.

It's Nurses Appreciation Week this week and we are celebrating our nurse manager, Kayla loud and proud!

As Heartbeat International says in regards to PRC nurses, "In pregnancy help organizations, nurses play a pivotal role in providing vital healthcare services while fostering an environment of empathy and understanding."

"At the heart of their work lies a deep commitment to the sanctity of life. They serve as pillars of strength for women facing unplanned pregnancies, offering not only medical assistance but also emotional support and guidance through challenging times."

Kayla exemplifies all of these beautiful characteristics. Hands up in celebration of Kayla and all of the other nurse managers who work to make PRC's such valuable community resources for women experiencing unplanned pregnancies!

Let's meet the staff of The Lennon Center!

Elena's background includes working in finance and then staying home for 17 years to raise her children.

She felt a calling to help women and babies and began volunteering at another pregnancy resource center. It was there that she decided that she wanted to go back to school with four kids at home to get a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography to help the pro-life movement.

Elena loves working with our moms and says, "I love that I am part of a team that truly cares for women and families in our community."
