Speaker Hall - State Representative to Receive LAHC Award for Excellence and Great Achievements at 42nd Annual Awards Gala

Dearborn, MI – May 8, 2025-LAHC-Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities is proud to announce that Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives Matt Hall will be honored with the LAHC Award for Excellence and Great Achievements during the organization’s 42nd Annual Awards Gala, scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn. This prestigious recognition celebrates Speaker Hall’s outstanding public service, leadership, and dedication to improving the lives of Michiganders through transparency, accountability, and bipartisan collaboration.

Now in his fourth term representing Southwest Michigan’s 42nd House District, Speaker Hall has earned a reputation for principled leadership and legislative effectiveness. Since taking office in 2019, he has spearheaded efforts to make Michigan government more responsive, affordable, and accountable. Hall’s service includes chairing the House Oversight Committee and the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic, where he led investigations that revealed critical issues in government operations, including significant unemployment fraud.

Wassim Mahfouz, CEO of LAHC, shared, “Speaker Hall embodies the spirit of this award through his unwavering commitment to service, transparency, and improving the lives of Michigan residents. His leadership and ability to build bridges across party lines reflect the kind of impact-driven work LAHC is proud to celebrate. We are honored to recognize him this year and look forward to continuing to work with leaders who uplift our communities.”

Elected Speaker of the House for the 103rd Legislature, Hall has focused on fiscal responsibility, restoring trust in government, and making life more affordable for Michigan families. His leadership has earned him numerous honors, including 2020 House Member of the Year, 2024 Political Figure of the Year, and awards from NFIB and the Michigan Manufacturers Association.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by LAHC,” said Speaker Hall. “This is an organization that makes a real, tangible difference in communities and in lives all across Southeast Michigan. LAHC is always there for everyone, no matter what. Their dedication to building stronger communities and empowering individuals in any way they can exemplifies the spirit of service we should all value.
I’m incredibly proud and grateful to be a part of this event tonight.”
A graduate of Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business and the WMU-Cooley Law School, Hall is a constitutional law attorney and has served both in public service and the private sector, including his role as West Michigan liaison for the Michigan Department of Attorney General and with a combat vehicle propulsion manufacturer.

The LAHC Annual Awards Gala is one of Southeast Michigan’s most distinguished events, bringing together elected officials, community leaders, and business professionals to celebrate individuals who exemplify leadership, service, and a dedication to building stronger, more equitable communities.

LAHC To Award $60,000 in Scholarships to 20 Outstanding High School Seniors During Annual Awards Gala
Dearborn, MI — May 5th, 2025 — LAHC – Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities proudly announces the awarding of $60,000 in scholarships to 20 exceptional high school seniors across Michigan as part of its continued commitment to supporting education and youth empowerment.
This year, LAHC received over 100 scholarship applications from high-achieving, service-driven students throughout the region. Due to financial constraints, only 20 recipients were selected, making this year’s awards among the most competitive in the program’s history.

Applicants were evaluated on academic performance, financial need, community involvement, and a deeply personal 500-word essay. The essay prompt asked students to share a mental health challenge they had faced, how they overcame it, and how they plan to raise awareness and reduce stigma within their communities—an especially timely topic given the rising rates of mental health issues among youth.

“These young leaders have not only excelled academically but have shown tremendous courage and compassion in addressing mental health challenges,” said Wassim Mahfouz, Chief Executive Officer of LAHC. “They embody the resilience and leadership we strive to nurture through our programs.”

Since its inception, LAHC’s Scholarship Program has awarded over $2 million to deserving students across the state, helping to bridge financial gaps and create opportunities for future changemakers.

The LAHC Annual Awards Gala is scheduled for Tuesday June 10th, 2025 at the Henry Hotel-Dearborn. This high-profile dinner is proudly presented by Huntington Bank and is considered one of southeast Michigan’s premier community events, celebrating local and national leaders whose work advances the well-being of individuals and families. Proceeds from the Gala support LAHC’s year-round programs focused on education, workforce development, health and wellness, and social services.
