Celebrating 3 years of Courageous Counseling & Consultation today 🎉

Since last October, Courageous has grown by welcoming 2 wonderful therapists to our team and expanding into consultation services for other therapists in the community. We have held 968 client appointments this past year!

I’m so deeply thankful for the trust clients place in me and in our team. Every session is a reminder that change is possible, that cycles can be broken, and that healing isn’t something you have to do alone.

Here’s to many more years. 🩵

I started a free newsletter for private practice therapists 👩🏽‍💻

1–2 times a month, I’ll be sharing the tips and lessons I’ve learned to hopefully make your private practice journey feel a little smoother.

This newsletter is for any therapist, but especially helpful if you’re newer to the field or just starting out in private practice.

If you’re a therapist (solo or in a group practice) who wants a little extra encouragement and practical support, I’d love for you to join. 🩵

You can sign up on my website - link is in my bio. 🔗

I just launched a new project I’m really excited about — my digital shop for therapists. 💻

I created these resources with early-career therapists and those preparing to launch a private practice in mind. Getting started can feel overwhelming, and my goal is to make the process more clear, confident, and supported.

What you’ll find inside right now:

📖 An eBook with step-by-step guidance on starting a private practice

📝 A progress note template and guide to simplify documentation while helping meet insurance standards

📞 A consultation script to guide conversations and encourage prospective clients to book intakes

💥 To celebrate the launch, I’m running a Labor Day Sale from September 1–12 with 25% off all items with the discount code LABORDAY25. Available both on my website and on Etsy - links in the comments below.

I’d love for you to share this with a colleague or therapist friend who might find it helpful 🩵

Since it’s been a while and I’ve had some new folks join this space, I wanted to pause and reintroduce myself.

Hi! 👋🏽 I’m Briana.

I’m an LCSW in Decatur and the founder + clinical director of Courageous Counseling and Consultation, LLC. I’m an EMDR certified therapist who’s passionate about helping people heal from childhood trauma, racial trauma, sexual trauma, and generational trauma.

I would describe my therapy style as down-to-earth, direct, attentive, and open-minded. Even though we cover challenging topics in session, I also love laughing with my clients. Outside of work I enjoy roller skating, watching documentaries, doing arts & crafts, and listening to Beyoncé. 🐝🤠🪩

When I first started my practice, I was scared of failure. I had absorbed so many subtle (and not-so-subtle) messages that success in private practice wasn’t meant for someone like *me*. But with encouragement from my community, I decided to lean into the fear and try it anyway. Almost 3 years later, I can say with certainty it was worth the risk.

Courage looks like being scared, but showing up anyway. Don’t let someone else’s limiting beliefs stunt your growth or keep you from what’s yours.

I’m grateful to be here, and glad you’re here too. 🩵

If you’re curious about starting therapy, or a therapist building the courage to start your own practice, I’d love to support you. You can reach me at briana@courageouscounselingatl.com.

Compassion looks like thanking your younger self for surviving in the only way they knew how.

Not judging them.
Not shaming them.
Just holding space for how they made it through with the tools and knowledge they had.

Kids are so vulnerable.
Your younger self did the best they could in a world that didn’t always feel safe or make sense.

Some of those tools may not serve you anymore, but they did help you make it here today. That deserves more compassion than critique.

What’s something you’d like to acknowledge or appreciate your younger self for today?

Curiosity looks like pausing self-criticism to ask, “Where did I learn this?”

The way we speak to ourselves is not random.

Our inner dialogue often echoes the messages we heard growing up — about who we are, what we’re worth, and what it means to be good, lovable, or successful. Whether it came from family, school, religion, or culture, those early messages shape how we think and feel about ourselves and the world around us.

But good news: with practice and support, those beliefs can shift.

You are not stuck with the voice you inherited.

You can learn to talk to yourself with more compassion and kindness. That change takes time. But it is absolutely possible. 🩵
