A moment of transparency…
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen more “women of a certain age” (Tabitha Brown, Halle Berry, and others) come out and openly discuss their experiences with perimenopause and menopause and I’ve been super excited.
Why excited? Because “as a woman of a certain age” (51) that had no prior warning, heads up, smoke signals, or open discussions with the elders, navigating this road has been ROUGH! As my BFF says Menopause the Musical is not for the faint of heart.
Working full time and dealing with workplace shenanigans, building a business, raising an unruly parent, while trying to exercise, eat right, and maintain relationships — basic day to day adulting — then adding hot flashes, brain fog, weight gain, severe indigestion/acid reflux, sleep issues, emotions on 100, etc. will push you to the edge.
Its been rough for me to look in the mirror and not recognize my reflection. My weight has fluctuated most of my adult life, but this phase of life feels so different — mentally, emotionally, and physically. Because it’s not just how I look but how I feel.
I’m lucky to have community to vent about our experiences and share what we’re learning. AND, my GYN and I had a come to Jesus moment in discussing my treatment plan cause something had to give.
As I’ve been planning my goals and setting intentions for this year (yes, I’m still planning), I am determined to focus on my health and wellness, maintaining connection with my mind and my sensual body. My sensual yoga journey is helping me to reconnect and my hope is that by sharing my journey and as a sensual yoga guide, I can help someone else.
More to come so stay tuned!
