Before every lesson our riders gather the horse’s tack and grooming bucket before going to get their horse.

Thank you to Stride Ahead instructor Claire for conducting our July new volunteer orientation (NVO), with the help from Stride Ahead volunteer Emily. We have volunteer orientation each month, and our next volunteer orientation is August 20, 6:15 pm.

Huge thanks to Power Home Remodeling’s veteran group who came to Little Creek for a work day at Stride Ahead! They cleaned out and organized our shed, cleaned the walls of Sarah’s stall, washed all the grooming buckets and tools, and cleaned and put up shelves in our tack room. It was a group of approximately 25 friendly, hardworking, fun and very generous folks. To finish the day they had time in the area with Tigo and Beaux. We appreciate all you did to support our mission and get so much done to help Stride Ahead!

Stride Ahead recently held a training session for prospective Rainy Day Walkers. The RDW’s go to the barn when the horses are not able to get outside due to weather or other circumstances. It gives our friends an opportunity to get out of their stalls and stretch their legs. It’s a very valuable service to our equine friends.

Many thanks to Stride Ahead Volunteer, Leslie, for this fitting farewell to our much-loved Gentleman Al.

There once was a very special horse
His name was A la Mode.
He taught many students how to ride
When on his back they rode.

An off-the-track thoroughbred
And handsome as can be.
Al was fluent in Horsespeak
He knew it from A to Z.

As Al matured he changed his focus
To that of a therapy horse.
He soon became known as Gentleman Al
Of nature, a gentle force.

For a while he carried Stride riders
On his dependable back
Then helped others with their problems
Of that, he had the knack.

His other talent was Halloween
Where he was a sight to see.
Mom Nancy dressed as Toto
And Al went as Dorothy!

Mom Jenny took loving care of Al
On many walks they did go.
Mom Nancy spent lots of time with Al
With love the two did glow.

To Nancy Al was the football star
When she was in high school.
Handsome and strong and popular
And of course, totally cool.

Everyone at Little Creek loved Al
We miss him every day.
But we know he’s happy in heaven
Where there’s never a lack of hay.

Where he can spend his sunny days
With Brubeck and Zan and Jake.
Where they can frolic and graze and roll
And stay out very late!

So thank you Gentleman Al.
We now bid you, adieu.
And wish you well forever
We promise we’ll never forget you!
