It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Edgeman Lentz, age 72, on July 13, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Cheryl was born on September 3, 1952, in Ringgold, Georgia. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 49 years, Tony Lentz, and a proud mother to Sabrina Knop (Jim) and Beth Mulvey (Ryan). Cheryl also cherished her role as a grandmother to Peyton Knop, Ryan Elizabeth Mulvey, and Liam Mulvey, as well as a beloved sister to Cindy Ransom. She was adored by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Cheryl and Tony built a life together around their successful business ventures, co-owning Lentz Tire & Service Center for 48 years, and Lentz Grocery & Deli for 20 years. Cheryl’s passion and dedication extended far beyond the family business, as she made a lasting impact on the tire industry. She proudly served as the first female president of the Alabama Tire Dealers Association, was a longtime member of the Alabama Scrap Tire Commission, and spent many years as the Executive Director of the Alabama Tire Dealers Association.
Cheryl’s love for her community also showed through her years of volunteer work. She coached youth league sports, supported her daughters’ school activities, and was a member of Mount View Baptist Church. Whether in the business world, on the ball field, or in her church, Cheryl’s leadership, hard work, and devotion were felt by all who knew her.
At home, Cheryl’s heart was with her family. She loved to cook meals for them, cheering on her children and grandchildren as they played sports, and traveling with Tony on their motorcycle or in their motorhome. Cheryl’s love for life, her family, and her friends was evident in everything she did. She was a loyal friend, a fierce supporter of her community, and a woman who embodied grace, strength, and resilience.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, sister, and many loving family members and friends. She will be greatly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Jim Knop, Peyton Knop, Ryan Mulvey, Dwight Witt, Chris Smith, and Rockie Compton.
