🧠 Dementia & Women’s Health — What’s the Connection?

Women face a higher lifetime risk of dementia, and hormonal changes during midlife may be one contributing factor.

Estrogen plays an important role in brain function, including memory, focus, and cognitive processing. During perimenopause and menopause, shifts in estrogen levels may influence how the brain functions — sometimes presenting as brain fog, forgetfulness, or difficulty concentrating.

While these symptoms are common, persistent cognitive changes should not be dismissed as “normal aging.”

Dekalb Women’s Specialists was founded by Albert Scott, Jr., MD in 1991. He is currently serving as the President of Dekalb Women’s Specialist. At DeKalb Women’s Specialists, our focus is comprehensive healthcare for women of all ages. Expect excellent care from the staff of DeKalb Women’s Specialists from the beginning. Our board certified OBGYN providers come from varying backgrounds, enabling them to meet the needs of our diverse patient population. Dekalb Women's Specialists has three OBGYN office locations around Atlanta, Georgia including offices in Decatur, Lithonia and Stone Mountain.

We offer a full range of OBGYN services including minimally invasive surgery, such as hysterectomies and myomectomies. Areas we excel at include uterine fibroid removal and management, treatment for heavy periods and abnormal uterine bleeding, 3D and 4D ultrasounds for expecting mothers, and menopause management. We also pride ourselves on our physician-directed weight loss program. From adolescence through menopause, we are dedicated to providing top care for women in the East Atlanta area.
