Make sure your physician has the best and most information to diagnose your disease or injury. Closed-bore MRI provides much higher image quality and better coverage of the body faster compared to an open MRI. The key is the magnet strength. Closed MRI gives the best results with significantly better images compared to the open-bore MRI. The higher magnet strength equates to better detail in the images.

Is your physician receiving the best information to diagnose your issue?
At the Imaging Center we use high image quality MRIs with feet first tables. Closed MRI systems create much higher resolution images than open MRIs, so your physician has more information to diagnose disease or injury. Feet first tables help you to feel more comfortable.

Dr. Michael Jokich came to North Alabama back in 1998 and was the lead radiologist for many years at Parkway Medical Center, Hartselle Medical Center and Woodland Medical Center. He then worked as the lead radiologist for The Center for Imaging Excellence in Huntsville before opening TIC. Dr. Jokich is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology as of 1990. He did his radiology residency at the University of Chicago, and was an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Rush University in Chicago before coming to Alabama. He has always tried to provide the very best care to all patients referred to him. He believes in high-quality detailed reads(using no canned reports), timely delivery of reports, and personal service, including calling the referring physician personally to deliver results in all cases medically requiring this and even in cases he personally feels require more timely reporting. This more personalized service leads to a significant increase in patient satisfaction for both involved in the patient’s care.

Lower back pain is a common reason that patients come into The Imaging Center for MRIs, X-rays, and other types of imaging. Taking measures to strengthen your lower back can help prevent and alleviate back pain. Knee-to-chest stretches are one easy exercise you can do at home to relieve pain and tension in the back.

To do a knee-to-chest stretch:

• Lie down on the floor on your back.
• Bend your knees with feet flat on the floor
• Take both of your hands and pull one of your knees towards your chest.
• Hold that position for five seconds, ensuring the spine is pressed into the floor to create a stretch.
• Return to start.
• Repeat this movement with the other knee.
• Do with both legs 2-3 times twice daily.

Thought this was an interesting tid-bit about x-rays....

It was totally by accident that Wilhelm Roentgen discovered what is now called an x ray on Friday 8 November 1895. In early 1896 he used them to make this image of his wife hand. She exclaimed- "I have seen my death!". It changed physics and medicine forever.

Why does imaging cost less at The Imaging Center? We have less overhead, and we don't have multiple layers of management. Hospitals stay open 24 hours/day all 365 days of the year, so they have more overhead. If you have a true emergency, then you should go to the hospital. For all your other diagnostic imaging needs The Imaging Center offers more affordable imaging without the stress of a hospital setting.

How can I prepare for my upcoming MRI exam?

For an ordinary MRI, no special preparation is required, but be sure to leave any jewelry or other metal objects at home. Under certain conditions, specialized MRIs require dietary restrictions when the MRI requires injection or ingestion of a contrast agent (a dye used for image enhancement). It is important to notify the person performing the test of any illness, allergy, or previous drug reaction.

Our CT scanner has one of the most powerful tubes in the industry for its class so that we can provide very high-quality vascular studies. Our ultrasound and X-ray equipment allows us to achieve excellent image quality, even for larger patients.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association recommends neck muscle strengthening as a preventive way to reduce neck fatigue and injury. Athletes with stronger neck muscles may be able to take control of the whiplash-like movement that occurs when the body is slammed into during high-impact sports, reducing the likelihood of a concussion.
