I just finished reading Dale Bredesen, MD’s book, “The End of Alzheimer’s.”
Easy read, 1-2 days.
Truly inspirational.
He describes hundreds of cases in which early Alzheimer’s has been reversed, or advanced Alzheimer’s has been stopped in its progression. This is unprecedented!
He describes how the single medication approach has yielded zero results, because Alzheimer’s is caused by a combination of up to 36 factors.
How did he get results?
He zeroes in on individually significant key areas (through blood and genetic testing). This lets him focus improvement for each person, from among 36 variables, most of which are lifestyle factors!
The factors that make a difference include:
1) dietary choices involving a mostly plant based diet,
unprocessed food, very low carbs, mild ketosis, 12 hour overnight fasting, plenty of green veggies;
2) specific, brain boosting herbs and supplements;
3) Gut health;
4) eliminating toxins (chemicals, mercury, heavy metals) and pathogens (mold, Lyme’s, microbes) from your body and environment;
5) regular exercise for your body, and brain (processing and memory);
6) lowering stress through meditation and life/work changes;
7) improving sleep quality;
8) hormone balance (adrenal, thyroid, s*x hormones); and
9) lowering inflammation.
For me, the most interesting thing is that all of these changes are what holistic practitioners have been talking about for decades.
Just eating what our creator put on earth, in the form it shows up, is, once again, the best way to eat for our health and to honor the sacred temple of our body. This physical vehicle can then be a blessing for a life of service, rather than an impediment.
And it turns out that this “prescription” is the exact same for all the most common, chronic diseases of industrialized civilizations.
Diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity are ALL helped and even reversed by these factors.
So when you optimize your lifestyle for one condition, you’re automatically preventing all of the others. That is truly exciting!
Dr. Bredesen makes a strong point that the diagnostic hallmarks of Alzheimer’s, like brain plaques and neural tangles, are present decades earlier with only mild symptoms of the “usual forgetfulness.” Having no symptoms but a family history is enough reason to start optimizing your brain health now.
I highly recommend the book, on Kindle, or paperback here:
