CaringCounselor

CaringCounselor Whether it's individual, couple, marital, or Welcome to The Caring Counselor page! I'm so glad you've found me. That was 5 years ago!

As a counselor, my job is to walk alongside my clients as they journey through the process of self-discovery and change and to equip them with the tools they need to manage whatever obstacles life has for them. My name is Heather Lawson and I am a counselor at Eagle Counseling in Decatur, AL. I started with Eagle as an intern in my counseling program with Capella University. Seven months later I was hired as a counseling intern and I've been there ever since. In addition to working at Eagle Counseling, I also work for The Enrichment Center, a 501c3 non-profit as the Program Director for the Enrich & Impact Prevention & Intervention Program. The Enrichment Center is responsible for placing counselors in schools so that students who need access to mental health services can receive them free of charge.

My Story

Welcome to The Caring Counselor page! I'm so glad you've found me. My name is Heather Lawson and I am a counselor at Eagle Counseling in Decatur, AL. I started with Eagle as an intern in my counseling program with Capella University. Seven months later I was hired as a counseling intern and I've been there ever since. As for my credentials, I have a BS in Psychology from Liberty University. My master’s degree is in Marriage & Family Therapy from Capella University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). My approach to counseling is eclectic, meaning that I draw from various counseling theories and theoretical foundations, tailoring my approach to the needs and personality of my clients. I believe that therapy can be brief and still be very effective. I am very solution-focused. I do believe identifying the problem is important; however, even more important are the steps my clients are taking to find solutions to create a new and meaningful life. I believe the therapeutic relationship is extremely important and I focus on developing strong relationships with my clients, earning the right to speak into their lives. I enjoy working with a variety of clients: adults, teens, and children doing individual, couple, and family counseling. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, reading, and listening to music. Welcome to my page!
