As if depression isn't scary enough when we don't have the information we need to help our children, self-harm and su***de can certainly up the anxiety and sense of helplessness. Kelly Garcia has offered a follow-up to her post about teen depression, where she discusses warning signs, helpful ways to connect and talk with your teens about their experience, and useful tools for keeping them safe.

Self-harm is not a mental illness, but a behavior that indicates severe emotional distress and need for better coping skills.

Happy Labor Day! We hope you are able to take some time for relaxation, reflection, and connection. If you're able, try getting outside. With modern Americans spending an average of 90% of their lives indoors, it's crucial to get outside every opportunity we have, in order to soak in the many physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits being in nature provides. Some helpful resources we endorse on this topic are "Last Child In the Woods" by Richard Louv; "Rewilding" by Micah Mortali; "The Comfort Crisis" by Michael Easter; and "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer.

Mindfully connect with nature and reconnect with self. Great for stress-reduction, spiritual growth, outdoor adventure, and expanding awareness of the more than human world.
