We are excited to share that The Highlands Grand Opening welcomed more than 500 guests to the new nursing and assisted living facility in Decorah. Special thank you to Sugar Bowl for the great treats and The Country Garden Flowers and Gifts Decorah IA for the lovey bouquet and Plantpeddler Inc. for the beautiful door prize porch pots! The Highlands is Aase Haugen Homes’ newest senior living community providing long-term care, skilled rehab, specialized memory care, assisted living, and a new outpatient therapy clinic set to open in June. After 111 years serving the community in a variety of locations, this new facility brings all the services of Aase Haugen Homes onto one campus conveniently located in Decorah. First Lutheran Church, Do Day Group donated two quilts to The Highlands, pieced by Helen James and long armed and bound by Beth Landas. Pictured are Lyn Lysne and Beth Landas.

As part of our mission to enrich the health and spirit of our community as a Christian-led organization, we started a special program this year. Our new home at The Highlands is truly beautiful, and our residents are settling in well. This program celebrates their birthdays with a soft, comfortable quilt—a gift that reminds them that others in the community are thinking of them and caring for them.

The practice of medicine is a commitment that shapes physicians’ days and decisions, and often their lives. Honor the Calling, the 2026 National Doctors’ Day theme, acknowledges the responsibility, skill, and compassion required to care for others in routine interactions as well as in moments of critical need.

We’re grateful for our physicians’ expertise and responsibility, and we thank them for the care they bring to our patients, our teams, and our community. Today we recognize and celebrate the wonderful Doctor's that take such great care of our residents.
