Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation and resilience—a recognition of the long fight for justice and equality in Black communities. As we reflect on that legacy, we also recognize the ongoing work to ensure access to health, healing, and opportunity for all.

Substance use doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Generations of systemic inequity—rooted in the same history Juneteenth commemorates—have shaped the social conditions that impact health outcomes today. This includes access to mental health care, housing, education, and prevention services.

As we honor Juneteenth, we also affirm that healing is a form of resistance. That supporting wellness in Black communities is a step toward true freedom. That prevention must be equitable, rooted in dignity, and community-led.

This week, we recommit to that vision: building systems that uplift, not punish. Supporting youth and families with compassion. Listening deeply. And never forgetting that health equity is inseparable from justice.

📢 Did you know?
Teens say the #1 influence on their decisions about substance use isn’t their friends—it’s their parents.
Prevention starts with clear, caring conversations:
✔️ Talk often
✔️ Be honest
✔️ Be consistent
Even if it feels like they’re not listening—they are.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride and Prevention 🏳️‍⚧️
LGBTQ+ youth face unique challenges that increase the risk of substance use, including discrimination, stigma, and mental health struggles. The Trevor Project’s 2021 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that LGBTQ+ youth are more likely to use substances as a coping mechanism due to these stressors. It's vital we create supportive, safe spaces where youth can find resources and healing. 💜

Let's work together to ensure that every LGBTQ+ youth has the support they need to thrive and make healthy choices. 🌈

This month, we recognize the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ youth face, particularly around mental health and substance use. As we celebrate Pride, let’s also remember that mental health care, prevention, and supportive spaces are essential for all. Together, we can create an inclusive environment where everyone thrives. 🏳️‍🌈
