Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation and resilience—a recognition of the long fight for justice and equality in Black communities. As we reflect on that legacy, we also recognize the ongoing work to ensure access to health, healing, and opportunity for all.
Substance use doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Generations of systemic inequity—rooted in the same history Juneteenth commemorates—have shaped the social conditions that impact health outcomes today. This includes access to mental health care, housing, education, and prevention services.
As we honor Juneteenth, we also affirm that healing is a form of resistance. That supporting wellness in Black communities is a step toward true freedom. That prevention must be equitable, rooted in dignity, and community-led.
This week, we recommit to that vision: building systems that uplift, not punish. Supporting youth and families with compassion. Listening deeply. And never forgetting that health equity is inseparable from justice.
