BIG SANDY, Wash. – A car crash involving two vehicles is blocking the northbound lane on State Route 291 at milepost 12 Big Sandy according to Washington State Patrol.

We were honored to stand today with the Spokane County Sheriff's department and the citizens of Spokane to support the family of Sargent Salas. It was impressive to see such support from law enforcement from so many different states.

Deer Park Ambulance is a mixture of paid and volunteer staff. As a 501c3 we were created and depend on donations. Over the years those have almost stopped. That is one way you can help.....and its tax deductible!!!!!

Spokane County Sheriff’s Sergeant Killed in the Line of Duty

It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office confirms the line-of-duty loss of a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant, a member of our agency and law enforcement family.

On August 9, 2025, at approximately 7:40 am, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant was tragically killed when he was struck by a motorist while assisting with a large traffic hazard on eastbound I-90 near the Four Lakes exit.

Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels will provide additional information later this afternoon at the Public Safety Building.
