This crazy looking machine can do lots of different things.

Wonderful question! I am so glad you asked!
Eye pressure can tell us all sorts of things about your eyes. Have you ever had an eye injury or trauma? Days, weeks, months, or even years later your eye pressure can be effected by it. If you have glaucoma, your eye pressure will be extra high. Are you on any prescribed medications? Those can effect your eye pressure too!
So, why do you need to be concerned about eye pressure?
Don't worry, your eye wont pop. However, high eye pressure can put pressure on nerves and blood vessels in your eyes. If your nerves aren't functioning properly, or if you have a loss of blood flowing though your eyes, you can loose your vision!
This is why it is important to get a comprehensive eye examination every year! In doing so your Eye Doctor will monitor the pressure in your eyes to see if there are any changes or concerning fluctuations.

Well, I was looking for a job in the medical field, as I had experience in dentistry. I wanted to change it up and saw your Facebook add and applied.

That is such a wonderful question! An extremely simplified answer is that Ophthalmologists can preform surgeries, and Optometrists can not.
Here at Deer Park Vision Source we strive to provide quality vision care to our community - therefore, we have invested in machines that can do in-depth tests, scans, and photos of your eyes just like Ophthalmologists can. Therefore we are fit for full eye examinations, post operative surgical follow up care, disease monitoring for things like age related macular degeneration, and much more.
The things that we have to refer our patients out to Spokane Ophthalmologists for are things like cataract surgery, or any other eye surgery, or eye injections. Besides that, we are your small town, locally owned and operated Optometrist office.

We asked Reagan what her favorite instrument is that she uses when checking patients into their exam before they see the Doctor. She said "My Tonometer, cuz it's cool!" This machine is able to quickly and efficiently check patients eye pressure giving us insights on glaucoma, previous eye injuries or trauma, or medication side effects.
