Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement — which one is right for you? I get this question more than any other, and the honest answer is: it depends.

Here's the short version:

✅ Medicare Advantage tends to have lower monthly premiums. Great if you're on a tight budget and relatively healthy.

✅ Medicare Supplement (Medigap) gives you more freedom — see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, no referrals, no networks. Costs are more predictable too.

✅ And if you want a middle ground, High Deductible Plan G is worth knowing about. Lower premium than standard Plan G, with the same broad freedom once the deductible is met.

Here's the part people don't always hear: your first Medicare decision really matters. Once you're on Medicare Advantage, switching to a Supplement plan later can be harder — and sometimes impossible — because of medical underwriting.
