With May being Osteoporosis Awareness Month, let's focus on ways to keep our bones healthy.

Maintaining strong and healthy bones is essential for overall health and well-being. Here are some key methods to achieve this:

Balanced Diet
Consume foods rich in calcium such as dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods.
Ensure an adequate intake of vitamin D through sunlight exposure, fatty fish, or supplements.

Regular Exercise
Engage in weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercises like walking, jogging, dancing, and resistance training.

Lifestyle Choices
Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption as they can weaken bones.
Maintain a healthy body weight to reduce strain on the bones and joints.

Bone Density Testing
For individuals at risk of osteoporosis, regular bone density testing can help in early detection and management.

Supplements
Consider supplements like calcium and vitamin D if dietary intake is insufficient, after consulting with a healthcare professional.

Fall Prevention
Take measures to prevent falls, such as removing tripping hazards at home and using assistive devices if necessary.
By incorporating these methods into your lifestyle, you can promote strong and healthy bones, reducing the risk of fractures and bone-related conditions.

I think most of us are familiar with the endless phishing emails that we receive daily, but now we are seeing an increase in “smishing” (SMS phishing).

Phishing SMS, also known as smishing, can be tricky to identify, but staying vigilant is essential. Here’s how to recognize and handle suspicious text messages:

Poor Spelling and Grammar:
Keep an eye out for misspelled words, awkwardly phrased sentences, poor grammar, and unusual spacing. These are telltale signs of a smishing attempt1.

Suspicious Links:
Hover over any links in the message without clicking on them. If the URL seems unrelated or redirects to an unexpected site, it’s likely a scam.
Legitimate organizations won’t ask you to click on links via text messages.

Urgent Action Required:
Scammers often create urgency to pressure recipients. If a message insists on immediate action (e.g., “Your account will be suspended”), proceed with caution.
Verify the urgency by contacting the organization directly using a known phone number or website.

Wrong Number of Digits:
Be wary if the sender’s phone number has an unusual format or an incorrect number of digits. Legitimate companies maintain consistent formats.

Irrelevant Content:
If the message doesn’t apply to you (e.g., claiming you won a prize from a contest you never entered), treat it skeptically.

What To Do About Spam Text Messages:
Don’t Respond: Never reply to suspected smishing texts.
Report the Attack:
Mark the text as spam within your messaging app.
Forward the message to 7726 (SPAM). This helps your wireless provider identify and block similar messages.
Notify your mobile service provider about the suspicious message.

Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with the official channels for reporting scams, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have opened up new possibilities in medical imaging, including the evaluation of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) exams. AI software can now be utilized to analyze CCTA images and assist radiologists in the detection and diagnosis of coronary artery disease.

Traditionally, the interpretation of CCTA exams required radiologists to meticulously analyze numerous images to identify arterial stenosis or plaque. However, with the integration of AI software, this process can be expedited and made more efficient.

AI algorithms developed for CCTA evaluation use deep learning techniques to learn and recognize patterns in the images. These algorithms are trained on vast datasets of annotated CCTA images, enabling them to detect and highlight potential areas of concern, such as significant stenosis or plaques.

The application of AI in CCTA evaluation has several potential benefits:

Improved efficiency: AI software can rapidly analyze CCTA images and provide radiologists with a preliminary assessment, saving time and allowing radiologists to focus on complex cases and making diagnostic decisions.

Enhanced accuracy: AI algorithms can aid in the detection of subtle findings or areas that may be easily missed. By alerting radiologists to potential abnormalities, AI can contribute to improved diagnostic accuracy and reduce the risk of overlooking important findings.

Standardization: AI software can help standardize the interpretation process by providing consistent analysis across different radiologists, reducing variability in diagnoses and improving overall quality control.

It is important to note that AI software in medical imaging, including CCTA evaluation, is meant to support radiologists rather than replace them. Radiologists play a crucial role in integrating clinical information, considering patient history, and making informed decisions based on the AI-generated findings.

Here is a little throwback for you. I remember when patient records resided on shelves, many, many shelves in manilla folders. I wonder why they are typically in rooms in the basement of the hospital. I had to walk by the morgue to go to Medical Records. To be honest, walking past the morgue bothered me less than that big dark room where (in my vivid imagination) someone could be lurking behind one of the shelves. 🤣

Laura Rebello contributes similar memories. "BEFORE digitalization and after. In school we had to go to the bowels of the basement of Emory and the floor-to-ceiling rolling files in huge rooms (dark) where all old films lived. Scary scary place. It was usually at night, all the students covered the night shift and it was SPOOKY."
