“Do I have to believe in God to belong to OA?”
This is one of the most common questions newcomers ask. The answer is no. OA is a spiritual program, not a religious one. A Higher Power of our own definition helps us find freedom from compulsive eating. For some, that Higher Power is God; for others, it might be love, nature, the Fellowship, or simply the strength found in recovery itself. In OA, you sort it out for yourself. You are welcome here, exactly as you are. đź’™

“After reflecting on my Tenth Step inventory, my perception is that I had experienced spiritual relapse long before the physical relapse.”
This member’s story shows that relapse can be part of the recovery journey—and that willingness and honesty can bring us back. Through Step Ten and Step Eleven, they found renewed connection with their Higher Power and the Fellowship of OA. 🌿

Recovery is about more than food—it’s about finding balance ⚖️, self-worth 💛, and hope 🌟. Overeaters Anonymous (OA) offers a supportive community where newcomers and long-time members alike can heal, grow, and connect 🤝.
"I’m a newcomer in OA. I’ve only been in program ten months, but I’m counting on many more. In these ten months with my Monday night family, I have found so many blessings I can’t keep track of them all on my daily gratitude list… This program works if I work it, and yes, I’m definitely worth it." — Kim W., Connecticut USA
In OA, you’ll find meetings, sponsorship, and fellowship that help you explore your relationship with food , work the Twelve Steps 📝, and build a more balanced life 🌱. You don’t have to face this alone—you are worth the effort 💖.
