Did you know chronic stress can show up as insomnia, anxiety, and even heart disease? ❤️🩹
What if being “strong” causes you to pull you away from the people who matter most? 💙
We explore this and more in the latest episode of our First Responder Families podcast. Host Ivona Bhadha sits down with Arthur Cobb, clinical therapist and Master Addiction Professional, to unpack the hidden emotional weight carried by first responders and military men.
From the fear behind emotional suppression to the impact of burnout, addiction, and disconnection, this conversation unpacks what happens when strength becomes a barrier, and what’s possible when openness takes its place.
We are proud to celebrate our April Alumni of the Month, Charles! 💙
Charles has dedicated his life to service. He joined the U.S. Army in 2000, serving in the Reserves. He was called to active duty from 2005–2007 as an Infantry Drill Sergeant at Fort Benning. In 2007, he began serving his community as a firefighter for the City of Indianapolis. From 2008–2010, he was again called to active duty, returning to Fort Benning as an Infantry Drill Sergeant.
In 2011. After a brief time home, Charles was called to active duty once more and deployed overseas to Afghanistan for twelve months, exemplifying his courage and commitment to serve. After returning, he continued his service with the fire department until his retirement in November 2025.
Even in retirement, Charles remains committed to service. He stays closely connected to FHE and Shatterproof, regularly attending events and dinners with his warm, welcoming presence. Most recently, he shared his honest and vulnerable story at the Thursday night Shatterproof inpatient meeting, offering experience and hope.
Charles's authenticity and strength continue to inspire our community, and we are deeply grateful for his sacrifices, integrity, and enduring example.
Congratulations, Charles! We're honored to have you as part of our alumni community! 🙌
