The Message My Donor Program allows blood or platelet recipients or their families to anonymously message their donor. 👨‍👧 The recipient can take the Message My Donor tag off the blood product in the hospital and bring it home to message the donor when they are ready.

"My husband was diagnosed with oral cancer three years ago. This was truly a scary time for our family, including our 2 young daughters.

Currently he is cancer-free and doing well!

As a way to give back, I recently decided to donate platelets and whole blood regularly in order to provide comfort and support to those in need.

"I started donating blood at RP Tew in Lakeland in 1977. I donated 8 gallons, and then in 2004 I got sick.

I had a bleeding ulcer after surgery and needed two more surgeries and 19 units of blood. I was very grateful for all the blood donors who were there when I needed help."

Lucy and her twin sister Gisenia began donating blood as teens, not knowing how much they would soon appreciate blood donors. In 2015, Gisenia was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and both sisters knew how important transfusions were to Gisenia’s treatment.

In 2023, Gisenia celebrated being 7 years cancer free! 🥳 Lucy takes any opportunity to encourage others to donate blood in the hopes of more happy endings like theirs.
