✅ What is Cervical Lordosis?
Cervical lordosis refers to the natural C-shaped curve of the cervical spine (neck) when viewed from the side. This curve helps distribute mechanical stress, support the head, and absorb shock during movement.
🔻 What Happens When Cervical Lordosis Decreases?
This condition is often called:
Hypolordosis
Loss of cervical curve
Cervical kyphosis (if it actually reverses direction)
🧠 Health Effects of Decreased Cervical Lordosis:
1. Neck Pain and Stiffness
Increased strain on muscles, ligaments, and discs
Often leads to chronic neck or upper back pain
2. Headaches
Tight cervical muscles and altered nerve flow can trigger tension or cervicogenic headaches
3. Nerve Compression
The altered curvature can lead to disc bulges or foraminal narrowing, potentially compressing nerves
Symptoms: pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness in arms and hands
4. Reduced Range of Motion
Loss of curve often restricts normal neck mobility, impacting daily activities
5. Poor Posture and Compensation
A straightened cervical spine can lead to:
Forward head posture
Rounded shoulders
Mid and lower back strain due to compensation
6. Impact on Spinal Cord
In severe cases, can compress the spinal cord, leading to neurological deficits
7. Balance and Proprioception Issues
Changes in head position affect the vestibular system, possibly influencing balance and coordination
8. Degenerative Changes
Abnormal alignment increases stress on discs and joints.
