Case Study – Patient x 48 (F)
Attending Homeopath: Madhur Kumar
Presenting Complaint:
A 48-year-old female presented with persistent weight gain, pain, and swelling of extremities over the past decade. Despite being physically active earlier in life and enjoying sports, her activity levels gradually declined due to worsening pain and heaviness in the lower limbs and feet.
History of Present Illness:
• Over 10 years, weight increased from 175 lbs to 215 lbs.
• Initial discomfort began as pain along the lateral aspect and length of the foot.
• Gradual enlargement of thighs and upper arms noted, with disproportionate deposition of tissue.
• Patient described “grainy dimples” beneath the skin of thighs.
• Inflammation markers were tested and found to be significantly elevated.
• Despite maintaining a balanced diet and moderate physical activity, the patient reported relentless progression of symptoms.
Emotional State:
The patient reported frustration, feelings of helplessness, and distress from not being understood by conventional practitioners. She expressed relief upon learning through online support groups about Lipedema, a condition that closely mirrored her symptoms.
Understanding of Condition (Patient’s Words):
“Lipedema isn’t just about fat—it’s about fluid, fascia, and flow. My tissues feel stuck, inflamed, and painful. It’s not vanity or laziness—it feels like my body is working against me.”
Clinical Observations:
• Disproportionate enlargement of thighs and upper arms
• Pain and heaviness in extremities
• Dimpling and nodular texture of subcutaneous tissue
• Limited mobility due to pain
• High inflammatory response (as per labs)
