I like to repost recordings from past events. This one has a very special place in my heart as this young woman was only 5 years old when she had her very first part in the Center on Deafness's play Pinocchio. A few years later she walked out onto the stage at the age of 7 and won the audience's heart as she signed "Tomorrow" from Annie. I originally taught her this song when she was 12ish and she later signed it at a fundraising event we hosted. She did a much better interpretation, but that sincere emotion existed from the age of 5. Love you Abbey Roin-Thigpen! I hope you still keep your dream alive!

Just found this tribute to my Mom Dr. Patricia Scherer. She and Bernard were real trailblazers and good friends! They shared a love for bringing the Arts to Deaf, and Hard of Hearing children and adults.

Just sharing some memories!

We are officially closed!

I am going to leave our page for awhile longer as it is hard for me to end this wonderful experience and place. I have recently returned from Mayo clinic and have received several diagnosis that are life changing. Dr. Scherer is slowing down, but her desire to move forward in developing new techniques to help people has not. Saying Goodbye to 40+ years of a labor of love isn't easy at all.

02/17/2017

I understand that the word it out and so before rumors begin to fly I thought it best to put up a notice. It is with great sadness that I announce ICODA will be closing its doors after 40+ years of serving the deaf community. Dr Scherer has spent her life time enriching the lives of many Deaf individuals in so many ways. Due to Dr. Scherer's and Kathy's declining health situations along with the tough economic times we are unable to keep these wonderful programs going. I will leave our FB page up for a while until we officially close the end of March. We thank all of our supporters throughout the years, and will forever cherish the many friendships we have made along the way. I hope some of you who we have helped along the way will think about picking up the mantle and continue to enrich Deaf children and adult's lives through the Arts. Anyone wishing to leave Dr. Scherer or the family a message please feel free to do so. Again we the Scherer/Herman/Strejc families have served and loved with our whole hearts. Be well everyone!
