🌟 Why Social Language Matters 🌟

Social language isn’t just about knowing words — it’s about knowing how to use them with others. Strong social language opens the door to play, and play is the foundation for learning during the early years.

When children have the tools to connect, share ideas, and respond to peers, they unlock richer play experiences — which, in turn, fuels their language growth, problem-solving, and confidence.

At Green Light, we intentionally pair peers in dyads so they can practice building these social language skills together. Side by side, kids learn to take turns, negotiate play themes, repair communication breakdowns, and celebrate each other’s ideas.

Being able to advocate for yourself — whether you’re a child or an adult — is such an important life skill. But advocacy doesn’t always come naturally. Sometimes kids (and parents!) need a roadmap: the right words, a model of how to speak up, and a safe way to practice. 💬

That’s why we love using social stories. They give children and families a script they can hold onto — guiding them step by step on what to say, how to ask for help, and how to share their needs with confidence. 📖💡

This isn’t just about communication; it’s about empowerment. When kids have the words, they also gain the courage. And when parents have a roadmap, they can better support their child’s voice being heard. 🌟

Our Friday Pr***en Social Group was such a win! 🌟

This group is for the kids who often get labeled as “fine.” They have friends, but the friendships don’t always go deep. They join activities, but conflict and competition can be tricky. Parents know these kids aren’t fully reaching their potential yet.

And today? They thrived. 🙌 With just the right amount of support, our pr***ens came up with creative ideas, worked through differences, negotiated, compromised, and even handled competition with confidence.

✨ Ate two full meals by mouth — a huge leap in independence.
✨ Drank thin liquids from a cup for the very first time.
✨ Learned how to chew — such an exciting new skill!
✨ Tried cheese, watermelon, and crackers… and absolutely LOVED them. 🧀🍉🥤

The Green Light Village just got a little bigger! 🍂💚

This week we kicked off our Fall Feeding Social Group, and it was everything we hoped for and more. Parents signed up with the dream of helping their children build peer connections, grow their language, and gain confidence with eating — and that’s exactly what we saw.

The kids laughed together, tried new foods side by side, showed patience, and shared so much joy. ✨ Watching those little moments of courage and connection was truly beautiful.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Jamie has called Illinois home for the past four years. She earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington and her master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Rush University Medical Center. 🎓

Jamie brings wonderful experience from the public school system and loves working with children of all ages. Her passion for helping kids grow in confidence and communication shines through every session. 💬✨

When she’s not in the clinic, you can find Jamie reading a good book, practicing yoga, or enjoying time with friends and family. And if it’s movie night? Her go-to is Frozen! ❄️💙
