Interview Suggestion from the book “So You Want To Be A Physician: Getting the Edge in the Pursuit of Becoming a Physician or Other Medical Professional” by Edward M. Goldberg:
Never ever say you want to go to a school because of its location, such as "Oh, I love the weather in Florida" or that you want to go to Texas A&M because you love the football team or you love Texas barbecue. Never ever say you want to go to Northwestern because you've always been a Cubs fan, and don't ever ever say you want to go anywhere because your parents live there or that's where you grew up. That is the highest form of an insult to the university and the individuals you are speaking with. You should only talk about wanting to go to a university because of their clinical attributes and their clinical professors.Think about it for a second. A professor has studied hard in high school and was the first in his/her class, was the first in his/her class in college, went to a great medical school and has now given up a private practice to teach at a university because he/she is dedicated to a particular component of science, such as anatomy. They have dedicated his/her life to teaching students, such as a potential student like you, and then he's/she's being told that you don't want to go there to learn from him/her, but because you want to live there with mommy and daddy.
Please, clinical pursuits only, not the Cubs, weather or your parents.
This is just one of many tips that are available in the book, “So You Want To Be A Physician: Getting the Edge in the Pursuit of Becoming a Physician or Other Medical Professional.”
