From Hoof to Heart

From Hoof to Heart I am a natural hoof care provider based out of Manchester Center VT and I am a proud certified practitioner with the Progressive Hoof Care Practitioners.

The horses in our lives do so much for us and so comes my philosophy that we owe them the best possible care we can provide. In this age of constant information, being a horse owner is harder than ever with so many choices when it comes to our horses' care so I thank you for taking the time to check out what I do! Natural hoof care does not simply entail pulling shoes or trimming a hoof. It is abo

ut setting the hoof up for optimal use as nature intended through the use of hoof care, movement, diet and general lifestyle.

❤️ I've been trimming this guy for almost 8 years I think... He has always had a very crooked foot and is happiest when I allow it to be that way! Lately his age has been catching up to him and his owner decided to get some diagnostics done to see what is going on internally. The results are so interesting!! It gave me some good insight and a few tweaks were made to the trim after these were taken.

I expected the coffin bone to be WAY weirder than it is and for the balance to be way further off. But this did give us an idea of what we are dealing with and it solidified that he is going to continue to have some off days and probably needs to be retired due to the extent of the arthritis.

Just a reminder that getting a baseline set of X-rays is never a bad investment in your horse's care!

Pulled the old crusty shoes off of this lovely Morgan yesterday. I opted for a conservative trim and allowed his foot to air out for a while to heal the deep thrush that had been festering under the pads he had on.

Looking forward to seeing how his feet progress over the winter!

One of the things I'm most proud of in my career is the opportunity to teach and learn from each other constantly through being a part of PHCP. I host on average 2 students a month from March to November from all over the US and Canada! These folks travel to me to spend a few days trimming my clients horses under my supervision and sometimes watching me work and honestly, the learning goes both ways.

I also have had the opportunity to help some new mentors along their journey as well so we can keep growing our network of hoof nerds!

I appreciate the students taking time out of their lives to come learn with me and I am eternally grateful to my clients who trust me enough to let these folks trim their animals. It's a win win all around!

I wanted to take the opportunity to brag on one of my clients a bit! Cailie adopted 3 donkeys from Gerda's Equine Rescue all with some level of distrust of humans and 2 out of the 3 needed serious hoof rehab.

Not only has she turned their behavior around but she has invested in a top quality turnout arrangement for them that has made an incredible difference in their feet. I forgot to get pictures of the dry lot situation she created so I hope she will post some for us to see!

I love seeing these super healthy feet on a donkey that is a healthy weight and is always happy to see me coming thanks to a ton of hard work put in by their dedicated owner!
