Gerry Wayne Barnett, 71, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away on December 27, 2025. He was born on February 16, 1954, in Seminole, Texas, to James “Blondie” Barnett and Clara “Jewel” Barnett.
Gerry lived a life defined by hard work, deep loyalty, and a spirit that never shied away from adventure. A private pilot, licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic, and experienced pump installer, he built a career grounded in craftsmanship and dedication. He began his working years at Smitty’s Agri-Chem before pursuing his passion for farming. After many years in the fields, he joined Harrison Cooper Drilling, where he further gained expertise. Eventually, Gerry founded Barnett Water Well Services, a business he took great pride in building and operating.
Outside of work, Gerry embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved team roping, leather work, the lake, flying, and cheering on college football. He was happiest surrounded by friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren, who brought endless pride and light into his life.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Blondie and Jewel Barnett; his brothers and sisters in law, Gail and Shirley Barnett, and Charlie and Diane Barnett; his daughter, Jennifer Salls; and sister-in law, Sheril Johnston.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Twila Barnett; his children, Jill Scarborough-Bridges and husband Lynn Bridges, Penny Barnett, and Ryan Barnett and wife Jennifer Barnett. He leaves behind seven grandsons—Taylor Scarborough and partner Alexis Coates, Christian Wren and partner Kasi Drake, Jaxon Bridges, Ransom Barnett, Tristan Naquin, Benjamin Naquin, and Rite Barnett—as well as two great granddaughters, Reana Scarborough and Everlee Wren.
Gerry is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Judy and Calvin Sellers; his mother in law, Wylma Langford; and his brother in law, Gary Johnston. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Gerry’s life was also enriched by friendships that became family. His close friend Ken Cooper, who was like a brother to him, along with Jennifer Cooper and their children, Jade Lagoski and Kenny Cooper, held a cherished place in his life. He also shared a special friendship with Jimmy McIntire and Andrea Abrego along with their children who Gerry loved as his own.
