Alliance Community Assisted Living hosted a special celebration honoring resident Janet Chambliss and her extraordinary years in Africa. As part of the event, Janet presented a captivating film highlighting her time on the continent.

Janet and her late husband, Sam, served as caretakers of a wildlife sanctuary at Twin Springs Ranch in Africa, where they dedicated 18 years to the care and conservation of elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and more. One touching scene from the film showed Janet and Sam visiting with their beloved black rhinos that became part of their extended family.

Now 88, Janet continues to inspire with her remarkable stories, adventurous spirit, and deep love for wildlife. The Alliance Community is honored to celebrate her legacy and the lasting impact she and Sam made in the world of conservation.

Congratulations MainStreet DeLand Association.

At tonight’s City Commission meeting, we proudly recognized the 40th anniversary of the MainStreet DeLand Association - a vital force in preserving and promoting our historic downtown since 1985. They were joined by several our area Main Streets who were in town for the Florida Main Street quarterly spring workshop.

Here’s to four decades (and many more) of community spirit, local pride, and making Downtown DeLand a truly special place!
