Unravelling what comes after knowing your identity is a lot. You start seeing what was actually happening.
No, I didn't make my eyes soft because I wore sunglasses since childhood.
No, I don't have 'city feet'*.
No, I'm not being difficult, dramatic, too sensitive, need to harden up, have a better attitude etc etc.
I'm me and I feel things differently.
I'm not reacting more, I feel more.
Believe what children are telling you, constantly invalidating them can have real consequences.

*City feet: in Aotearoa New Zealand we walk around barefoot lots. If you walk around flinching or say it hurts, you'll be told you have city feet (from being in the city wearing shoes and socks) and need to harden your feet up.

It's too bright!
No it's not.
It's too loud!
No it's not.
It tastes yucky!
No it doesn't.
I'm scared!
Don't be silly.
I hate going there!
No you don't.
I'm sorry!
No you aren't.]
