Brendan J. Jackson

Brendan Joseph Jackson, 42, passed away unexpectedly, June 15, 2025 at Duck Hole, Franklin County, N.Y. Brendan was born in Albany, N.Y., on Easter Sunday April 3, 1983, the son of Eric and Mary Louise (Delehanty) Jackson. A resident of Delmar, N.Y., he was a graduate of the Bethlehem Central High School, received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from RIT, a Bachelor’s in Forestry from Paul Smith’s College and a Master’s in Forest Resource Management from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Brendan’s passion in the outdoors took off when he attended Paul Smith’s College. With the school outing club he helped lead hiking and backpacking trips, including in the Winter. He also went on numerous personal trips, including finishing the Adirondack’s 46 high peaks. He would later go on to finish all 46 peaks in the winter, hiking many of them multiple times.

After college, Brendan joined the DEC as a seasonal Assistant Forest Ranger, a role he would continue to return to annually. In the off season, Brendan pursued a number of jobs in the outdoors that took him around the country, including volunteering for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, documenting tree maintenance along power lines and working as caretaker at the Lake Colden Interior Outpost.

In recent years, Brendan was posted as an Assistant Forest Ranger in the southern High Peaks - one of the more visited areas of the Adirondack Park. He encountered many people on the trails, making sure they were prepared and assisting as needed. He loved dogs, and especially taking them along on hikes and backpacking trips.

Brendan educated hikers online as well, posting in Adirondack related forums under the user name DSettahr. His posts were informative and direct, seeking to share the knowledge that would keep people safe and preserve the wilderness areas.

Brendan is survived by his parents; his sisters Annie Jackson (Stephen Smigielski) of Roanoke, Va. and Carrie Jackson of Saratoga; and his paternal grandmother Katherine Jean (Caswell) Jackson (late Frederick); his aunts Patricia (Delehanty) Tuzzolo (late Richard) and Joy (Jackson) Dohring (John); his uncles John Delehanty (Wendy) and Todd Jackson (late Jane); and many first cousins. He is also survived by his good friends Sam Prestidge and Danielle Dorfer Carr.

William J. Cavanagh

William (“Bill”) J. Cavanagh, was born on September 25, 1945, in the Bronx, New York. He passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home in Guilderland, New York. A beloved father, grandfather, and proud retired firefighter, Bill lived a life marked by devotion to family.

Bill dedicated twenty years of his life to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), serving with Engine 46 during an era when “the Bronx was burning.” He took tremendous pride in his role, often sharing vivid stories of camaraderie and competition between fire companies from his time in the 1970s and 1980s. His career also included opportunities to train new members, passing on his extensive knowledge and experiences.

He was not only committed to his work but also cherished his family deeply. Bill's love for his children was immeasurable; he made it a priority to attend every cross-country and track and field meet they participated in during high school. His grandchildren knew him as a doting grandparent, keeping every drawing they made for him as treasured keepsakes. His wife, Mafil, was the center of his universe. Their cherished marriage of 46 years was filled with shared walks and evenings spent watching the news and game shows together. He cared for her lovingly until her passing in January 2020.

Bill’s formative years were spent in the Bronx, where he attended St. Anselm’s Grammar School and later earned his high school diploma from Mount St. Michael’s Academy in 1963. He fulfilled a promise to Mafil by pursuing higher education at Herbert H. Lehman College, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1977.

Bill served his country with honor after being drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. He loved the structure of the Army and fondly remembered the commanding officer that he served under in South Korea and Vietnam.

An individual larger than life, Bill was well known for his gregarious personality and Irish wit. He had an innate ability to connect with others, effortlessly striking up conversations with strangers and proudly sharing stories of his children's accomplishments. His generosity was evident in his everyday interactions - Bill was a known over-tipper when dining out and he enjoyed providing both solicited and unsolicited advice to friends and family alike. In addition, Bill had a love for Ireland, reflecting on fond fishing trips with his father. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like listening to “the oldies” music, exploring new restaurants with family, and taking leisurely walks with Mafil both in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, and in his new neighborhood in upstate New York.

Bill Cavanagh is survived by his son Daniel Cavanagh and daughter-in-law Erica Cavanagh (granddaughters Hope, Faith, Madelyn, and Everly); daughter Shannon Mastrangelo and son-in-law John Mastrangelo (granddaughter Nicolina and grandson John); and daughter Tracy Cavanagh. He will also be lovingly remembered by Kate Dull, his trusted nurse & honored family member. Bill was preceded in death by his father William H. Cavanagh, mother Delia Cavanagh, and beloved wife Mafilda Cavanagh.

The visitation for William J. Cavanagh will be held on June 22, 2025, at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar, New York, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a prayer service from 11:30 AM to 12 PM.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, William preferred that a donation be made in his wife Mafilda’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The link is https://www.lbda.org/donate/

Earl G. Lenhardt

Earl G. Lenhardt unexpectedly passed away on May 30th, 2025 at the age of 74. He loved his family more than anything, and embodied that love by reliably showing up in ways large and small whenever and wherever he was needed. One of his greatest accomplishments in his mind was that he and his son Adam were friends as well as father and son, a feeling that his son has very much shared.

Earl was born to Earl H. and Alice (Bennett) Lenhardt in Albany, NY. He grew up as the middle child alongside his brothers George and Dennis in Slingerlands, NY.

After graduating from Bethlehem High School, he was drafted and served his country honorably as a lineman in the United States Army and the Army National Guard of New York.

Like his father before him and his brothers alongside him, he joined the Slingerlands Fire Department in 1968. After 34 years as a dedicated active member, he continued to work on the fire department's behalf serving a couple terms as a commissioner.

He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, and spent the bulk of his career working for the NYS Department of Transportation, where he met his close friends Frank Andrews, Bob Lohse and Tom Cooper. Even long after they'd all long ago retired, Earl, Bob and Tom still continued to get together regularly for "Manhattan nights" and other social outings.

Through his first wife, he met Daniel (Boz) Baker who became one of his closest lifelong friends. After Earl’s first marriage ended, Boz's wife Mimi and sister Kathy introduced him to Mary Jay (Casey), a nurse in the doctor's office they worked at.

Earl and Casey bought a five-acre property in Slingerlands together, which Earl considered their own little sanctuary. Having committed to a decades-long mortgage together, Earl figured marriage would be the practical next step. The pragmatism of his decidedly unromantic proposal was belied by the love that permeated the more than four decades they would spend together as husband and wife; in his words, "we had a lot of good years together."

After retirement, Earl and Casey traveled extensively, and he was able to see much of this country that he hadn't already seen during travels earlier in his life, as well as many of the Caribbean islands and Florida Keys that Casey loved.

In 2023, he weathered a serious stroke and Casey's passing after a seven year battle with lung cancer. In the aftermath of those two life-changing calamities, he rallied remarkably well, bolstered by the comfort of his friends, the support from the Slingerlands Fire Department, and a good attitude: He answered the frustrations resulting from his stroke and the grief of losing his beloved wife with gratitude for what he'd had, for all of the people in his corner, and for what he could still do.

He was grateful for the help and assistance of his occupational therapist Leah Campbell and his speech therapist Fatima Khan, who worked him to help him regain a lot of the function impacted by the stroke, to the point where he was able to continue living independently after Casey's passing.

As a widower, he and Adam went on three major road trips: one to spread Casey’s ashes in the Florida Keys, one exploring the national parks of the Pacific Northwest, and most recently exploring the national parks of New Mexico and the Four Corners region. He enjoyed an active social life with his son and his friends right up until the end.

He is survived by his son Adam of Albany; his sister-in-law Lynne (Lesse) Lenhardt of Delmar; his nephews, Brian and Dennis Jr.; and his niece, Kimberly. In addition, through his marriage to Casey, he is survived by his sister-in-law Sarah (Tony) Fiacco of Potsdam, NY; Casey’s nephews, Mark (Tracy) Bradish and Sean Casey; and her niece, Bridget (Jim) Bradish.

In addition to his wife Casey, he is predeceased by his parents and both of his brothers.

Friends are invited to gather to visit with the family at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar on Sunday, June 8 from 4 to 7 pm. A brief service celebrating Earl's life will be held at the Applebee Funeral Home on Monday, June 9 at 11 am, with a reception following immediately at Slingerlands Fire District Station No. 1, 1520 New Scotland Rd, Slingerlands.

Those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to the Slingerlands Fire Department Benevolent Fund.

Robert J. Jasinski

Robert J. Jasinski, known to friends and family as Bob, passed away on April 30, 2025 at the distinguished age of 92. Born in September 1932 in Albany, NY, he grew up to value hard work, family, and service. Principles that guided him throughout his life.

Bob’s early years were spent in Albany, where he graduated from Albany High School in 1951. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War serving as police officer on the base in Rhode Island. He often recounted his experiences, tales of his travels back to Albany, and of his pride in serving his country. He was always proud to be an American and also proud of his Polish Heritage.

Although he aspired to go to college, he opted instead to join the family business, Stanley Paper Co, as a partner. In the early 70s he sold his shares in the business and embarked on a career with New York State. He held many different positions before becoming a Capital Police Officer during the construction of the Empire State Plaza. He held that position for many years after that as he kept safe many Governors and employees all through the state offices. After the dismantling of the police force, he transitioned to a Purchasing Agent with the Office of General Services (OGS) until his retirement in 1994.

Bob was deeply committed to his family and enjoyed many memories of the simple yet profound joys of them. He took great pride in ensuring his beloved wife Barbara was comfortable and cared for. After retirement they were able to enjoy together many winters in Florida. He believed home ownership was important and after building two homes for he and Barbara, he helped his children build homes and even aided his grandchild.

He was a hands on father, taking his children wherever he could, including many deliveries for the family business that culminated in a Fish Fry at Bob and Art’s or ice cream sundae at Platt’s place, even cookies at the Polish Bakery. He introduced both his son and daughter to hunting in Delaware County and fishing at the camp on Lake Champlain at an early age. He was especially thrilled to spend many of his last years hunting with his daughter, Linda, knowing he instilled in her a strong sense of confidence and that gender did not dictate what she could do. Bob supported his son, Stanley, in starting his own business and helped whenever he could. He would often be seen wearing Blue Diamond shirts about town and talking about the services that could be provided.

Bob relished his time visiting often with his grandson Stephan, whose wife Stephanie made cornbread he enjoyed immensely. He was proud of his granddaughter Katie, as she was the first in the family to attain a college degree, celebrating her independence and success. He enjoyed time with his great grandchildren, Jacob and Beverly. He was always concerned about their welfare, and recently enjoyed hearing about their exploits as they uncovered “treasures” from Bob’s collections of old items.

Long before it became mainstream, recycling, reuse and scrapping were Bob’s passion, picking up many great items that were discarded. He loved going to garage sales and having his own occasionally. It was said, “If you wanted something, ask Bob”. Not only would he probably have it, he would have multiples to give.

Bob was always frugal in his purchases, always looking for the bargain, and delighted when he got a deal. He enjoyed small scale stock market investing. But he was a person of kindness, willing to lend a hand to those that wanted to better themselves. He was a member of the Zaloga Post, and spent many years involved in politics on the Albany County Conservative Party Committee. He was one to step up when he saw the need, including running for Bethlehem Supervisor to give people a choice in their vote. He was not afraid to keep an eye on the Town Government attending many Board meetings and voicing his opinion with public comments.

Many years ago, Bob formed a strong friendship with Dennis O’Connor, their camaraderie characterized by mutual support and countless meaningful conversations about life, family and country. They always watched out for each other. You could often find them sharing coffee in the garage. Bob loved coffee and was sure to never waste it. He insisted on saving the leftover coffee and reheating it for days, having it with cookies or sweets that he always enjoyed.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Mehalak) Jasinski, his children Linda Jasinski (Ted Simons) and Stanley Jasinski (Ann). He was “Papa” to his grandchildren Stephan Jasinski (Stephanie), Ben Jasinski (Krista), Zachery Jasinski (Maria) and Katerina Simons, as well as his 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Margaret Jasinski and brother Matthew Jasinski.

A special thanks those that took the time to help and care for him in his later years, Barbara, Linda, Ted, Steve, Steph, Dennis, and the Hospice Nurses, especially Nicole who put that “sparkle” in his eye when he saw her.

According to Bob’s wishes, there will be no services or memorial. Interment at the convenience of the family.
