As many of you know, one of our Engineers, Carroll Nicholson had complications after back surgery that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Our community came in big time selling out a chicken dinner fundraiser as well as helping him get a bathroom remodel and a ramp.

This week, Carroll started inpatient physical therapy at a local rehabilitation facility. The progress is nothing short of a miracle and determination!

The Delmar Fire Department and Nicholson family thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers.

August 11, 2025. Motor Vehicle Collision. Delmar Fire Dept responded near the intersection of Bi-State Boulevard and W. Snake Road for a vehicle collision. The intersection was closed while Fire and EMS units worked and Delaware State Police investigated.

Assist Laurel with Attic Fire

On Tuesday, July 29th, Sussex EOC alerted Laurel, Delmar and Sharptown Fire Departments for a house fire west of the town of Laurel. Command 81 (Lowe) arrived on scene with smoke showing from the eaves. Crews from Laurel Fire Department made an aggressive interior attack and found a working fire in the attic. Engine Tanker 74-2 arrived second and went to the roof with the crew from staffed engine 87-5 to cut a vent hole to relieve smoke and heat for the crews in the attic. Additional crews from Sharptown and Laurel provided overhaul and RIT.

North Prong Lane is closed due to a tree across the road. County Road is responding for removal. Residents can still access their homes in the opposite side by taking Engle Drive.

Assist Blades with Working House Fire

On July 28th, Truck 74 staffed with 5 responded to assist Blades Fire as the second due truck. Truck 74 arrived, took the Charlie side. The crew laddered the roof and performed overhaul operating for 2 hours.

Attempted Parrot 🦜 Rescue

On July 23rd in the late afternoon, Wicomico EOC alerted station 74 for a service call, reported as a parrot stuck in a tree. Crews arrived and located the parrot in a tree. The owner of the bird and a member of DFD went up Truck 74 to get the parrot…unfortunately it flew to an adjacent tree. After moving the ladder to the other tree, the crew again attempted to get the bird…and it flew to another tree across the street. Units cleared the call shortly after.

Assist Hebron on MVC

On Tuesday, July 22 Delmar FD was alerted to assist Hebron on a vehicle accident with fires. Engine 74-1 responded with 4 and assisted with blocking the highway and clean up. Medic 74 responded and transported one patient to the local trauma center.
