Did you know that falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults — but some falls are preventable?
This month, we’re sharing tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe, independent, and on your feet.
✅ Stay active – exercise can help maintain your strength and balance
✅ Make your home safer by removing tripping hazards like throw rugs and extension cords
✅ Make sure hallways, stairs, and bathrooms are well-lit
✅ Get regular vision and hearing checks
✅ Talk to your healthcare provider about fall risks and prevention

At Albany Med Outpatient Physical and Occupational therapy, we’re always looking for new ways to help our patients recover, move better, and feel their best. Recently, we had the chance to try out a virtual reality system in our occupational therapy department. This short-term trial allowed our patients to engage in immersive, interactive exercises designed to improve mobility, balance, and coordination in a fun and motivating environment. While we won’t be keeping the system long-term, it was a great opportunity to see how technology can add to the rehab experience and will help shape future treatment approaches. We learned a lot and are excited to keep bringing fresh ideas into the clinic to support our patients’ progress.

Albany Med Outpatient Therapy would like to introduce Allie Schroeder PT, DPT to the AMC team. With 8 years of experience as a physical therapist in both orthopedics and pelvic floor therapy settings, Allie is passionate about building strong connections with her patients to truly understand their needs and help them reclaim their quality of life. She’s excited to join Albany Med because of the amazing coworkers and patients she’s already met. Fun fact: Allie’s a huge Boston sports fan living in New York and a proud mom to a 1-year-old daughter! Welcome, Allie!
