💡 5 Ways Dads Can Support Breastfeeding Without Feeling Left Out
1️⃣ Be the snack hero – She’s feeding the baby, you feed her! Keep water, fruits, or her favorite treat nearby.
2️⃣ Burping duty – After every feed, take over and burp the baby. It’s bonding time for both of you.
3️⃣ Night shift backup – Even if she’s breastfeeding, your help with diaper changes or keeping her awake during feeds matters.
4️⃣ Emotional anchor – Hormones are intense. Remind her she’s doing great, and don’t flinch if she cries mid-feed.
5️⃣ Learn with her – Read up on latch positions, cluster feeding, and milk supply. It’s teamwork, not spectatorship.

🎗️ Dads aren’t just side characters—you're the co-pilot. Your support makes her feel seen, strong, and unstoppable.

I was asked in an interview what one of my biggest challenges is.
My answer was that it is challenging when providers tell parents that their child does not have a tie, when all the symptoms demonstrate otherwise .

This is an example of why this often happens. Unless your provider has received special training in identifying ties, they can be missed, especially posterior tongue ties.

🍼💬 Let’s Talk About Frenectomy Follow-Ups 💬🍼
At Bright Beginnings, we love supporting families through every step of the tongue- or lip-tie release process!

We offer a routine post-procedure check-in shortly after the frenectomy to ensure proper healing and answer early questions. 💡

📅 Please note: Any concerns or evaluations after the initial follow-up period—typically beyond 2 weeks post-procedure—are considered a separate visit and will be billed accordingly.

Why? By this time, healing is typically well underway, and new concerns may require a full evaluation.

We’re always happy to see your child again, but we want families to be aware of how these visits are handled. ❤️

Questions? Need to schedule? Call us—we’re here to help!

This baby received a labial and lingual frenulum release today.

Here are some of the things we look for when evaluating for labial frenulum ties…(lip ties)

1) Can the lip retract to nose/cover the nares?
2) Is there blanching of the gums with retraction due to a tight frenulum?
3)Is there peeling or cobblestone appearance to the lips?
4) Is there a midline sucking blister?
5) Does the baby have problems feeding/latching?

Not all lips are “tied”, even if there is a thick frenulum noted or a gap in the teeth. A “tie” constitutes a restriction that is causing symptoms.

Give us a call if you are questioning lip or tongue tie in your infant. We would be happy to evaluate him/her for you!

Wow…We have been busy over here doing evals and releases to help babies eat better! And that is one of the BEST jobs ever. ❤️

I was also honored to travel to Boston and San Antonio to assist with the hands-on portion of two laser courses, instructing on how to use the CO2 laser that we use at Bright Beginnings. I will continue to travel over the next several months to help with the Infant Frenectomy courses.

We are always available to help your babies. If you are questioning a lip or tongue tie, give us a call!

Signs of Improper Latch:

1) Painful Feeding: Pain or discomfort while infant is feeding, sore ni***es, ni**le damage (such as cracking or bleeding), or pinching sensation can indicate your baby is not latched on correctly.

2) Shallow Sucking Sounds: Clicking or smacking noises while baby is breastfeeding may indicate they are not latched deeply enough to the breast. Proper latch should be quiet with occasional swallowing sounds.

3) Misshapen Ni***es: After feeding, your ni***es should not appear misshapen or flattened. If your ni***es look compressed, pinched, or lipstick shaped, it's likely a sign that your baby is not latching deeply enough to draw milk effectively.

4) Inadequate Milk Transfer: If your baby is not gaining enough weight, producing enough wet diapers, or showing signs of hunger shortly after feeding, it could indicate an inadequate milk transfer due to an improper latch.

5) Engorgement or Mastitis: Improper latch can lead to incomplete emptying of the breast, increasing your risk of engorgement (overfull breasts) or mastitis (inflammation of the breast tissue). These conditions can be painful and may indicate latch issues.

If you suspect your baby has an improper latch, it’s essential to seek support from a lactation consultant or healthcare provider to address and correct the issue promptly.
