Hydration reminder 💧

Still cozy indoors? Don’t forget to sip water throughout the day — hydration keeps saliva flowing, which neutralizes acids, helps remineralize enamel, and fights dry mouth. If your tap water isn’t appealing, try adding a lemon slice or enjoy unsweetened tea.

If dry mouth is persistent or meds are a factor, DM or call us — we can recommend saliva substitutes and other helpful options.

Saliva Superpowers — why your spit matters 🦷💧

Saliva does a lot more than you think — it neutralizes acids, helps remineralize enamel, starts digestion, protects against bacteria, and even helps wounds heal. When saliva is low (dry mouth), you’re more likely to get cavities, bad breath, and sore or irritated tissues.

Simple ways to boost saliva and protect your smile:
• Sip water often throughout the day.
• Chew sugar-free (xylitol) gum for 10–15 minutes after meals.
• Cut back on mouth-drying drinks (alcohol, extra-strong coffee) and salty snacks.
• Tell us about medications that cause dry mouth — we can suggest saliva substitutes or prescription rinses.

If dry mouth or sensitivity is bothering you, DM or call us — we’ll recommend easy, practical fixes and review options like in-office fluoride.

Cavity-Free Kids

January is a great time to think ahead for your child’s dental health. If your child hasn’t had sealants yet, ask us about them — the CDC reports sealants can prevent up to 80% of cavities in back teeth for the first two years after placement. Sealants are quick, painless, and one of the easiest ways to protect chewing teeth in childhood. DM or call to schedule a sealant consult for your child.

Floss-On-The-Go

Busy day? Keep floss picks or an interdental brush in your bag, desk, or car — it literally takes 60 seconds to floss after a meal, and that small habit makes a big difference for gum health. Try carrying a travel pack this week and see how much cleaner your mouth feels. Want a quick floss demo or product recommendation from a hygienist? DM us or call to schedule.

Enamel hardness 💎

Did you know tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body? It scores roughly 5 on the Mohs hardness scale, and is harder than bone. The catch: enamel can wear away and it can’t regrow — so protect it. Limit acidic drinks, brush gently with a soft brush and fluoride toothpaste, and ask us about in-office fluoride if you’re at higher risk. DM or call to schedule a checkup if you’ve noticed sensitivity or wear.

Menopause & your oral health

Thanks to a great question from one of our followers — today we’re talking about menopause. Hormonal changes during menopause can affect the mouth. Lower estrogen levels may lead to dry mouth, increased gum sensitivity, a burning sensation (sometimes called burning-mouth), or changes in taste. These shifts can make the mouth more vulnerable to cavities, gum inflammation, and irritation.

Here’s what can help:
• Stay hydrated and sip water throughout the day; consider saliva substitutes if dry mouth persists.
• Use a soft-bristle brush and gentle technique to protect exposed roots and sensitive gums.
• Try a desensitizing toothpaste for sensitivity and ask about in-office fluoride to strengthen enamel.
• Keep up with regular cleanings — more frequent hygiene visits can help catch early problems.
• Tell us about any medications (including hormone or osteoporosis treatments) — some drugs affect healing or cause dry mouth. We’ll coordinate care and recommend extra precautions if needed.

If menopause is changing how your mouth feels, DM us or call to schedule a brief consult — we’ll create a comfortable, personalized plan to protect your smile.

New Year, new smile goals 🎉

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2026! A small, powerful resolution: floss every day. Daily flossing removes hidden plaque between teeth, reduces gum inflammation, and helps protect against cavities. Not sure which product is best for you? Ask our hygienists — we’ll recommend a floss, pick, or interdental brush that fits your needs and comfort.

Start the year with a checkup: call (561) 637-9300 or request an appointment online.

New Year’s Eve — Go low on sugar

Ready to toast 2026? Start a healthy-smile resolution now. The World Health Organization recommends keeping free (added) sugars below 10% of total daily calories and suggests that reducing to below 5% (about 25 g, roughly 6 teaspoons) gives additional protection against dental cavities.

Swap some soda or holiday punch for water, choose fewer sweet treats, and your teeth will start the new year strong — small changes now help prevent cavities later.

Dental X-rays: what you should know

When patients hear the word “radiation,” it can sound scary — but modern dental X-rays use a very small amount of radiation and are among the safest medical imaging tools in use today. Digital X-ray systems reduce exposure dramatically compared with older film methods, and dentists follow safety principles to take images only when clinically necessary. For perspective, everyday exposures — like a short airplane flight or brief time outdoors — often give you more radiation than a typical dental X-ray. If you ever have concerns, ask us how we minimize exposure for you and your family.

Holiday leftovers tip

If your holiday haul includes lots of candy and cookies, try swapping one treat for a tooth-friendly crunch: cheese cubes, celery, or crunchy apples help neutralize acids and mechanically clean teeth. When you do indulge, rinse with water or wait about 30 minutes before brushing to protect enamel. And if your teeth need a reset after the season, book a cleaning and polish — we’ll get your smile feeling fresh again. DM or call to schedule.
