A few weeks ago we had a guest at the who had just started a four-week sabbatical.
We were lucky enough to kick off her time away from work by welcoming her into The Sanctuary Experience. In the true spirit of a sabbatical, she had deleted email and social media from her phone—fully disconnecting, creating space, and choosing to tune in.
One afternoon, after a guided meditation, we sat together and talked about stillness, presence, and what begins to surface when we finally slow down.
A few things stayed with me from that conversation.
The first was this:so often, we move too quickly to even notice what’s right in front of us.
The small moments. The quiet goodness of a day.
The second was timing.
Mitch, one of our resident yoga practitioners, shared something with her that really landed:
Expect nothing, appreciate everything.
She said it hit her deeply—like it was exactly what she needed to hear in that moment.
And isn’t that how it often works?
Our expectations can quietly set us up for disappointment. But appreciation shifts everything.
The last piece was about letting go.
During the meditation, I guided everyone to release thoughts, beliefs, or feelings that no longer serve them—imagining them placed inside glass spheres floating down a stream.
Afterward, she told me she remembered exactly what she had placed into her spheres—and as a writer, she wanted to make sure she wrote it down so she wouldn’t forget. So she could return to it later. Reflect on it. See how far she had come.
And it made me think… How often do we miss what’s happening within us?
How often do we forget how far we’ve come, how much we’ve grown, how much we’ve carried—and released?
So this week, I invite you to gently disconnect from what doesn’t matter…
And reconnect to what does.
